On Friday, all staff will be at an off-site retreat, and there will be no Study Center. This annual event is an important one for the school and a favorite for many staff members. So what do we do? First, we reflect on the past year. What students did we impact particularly well, and what can we learn from that? What plans did we make at last year's retreat, and how are we progressing on those plans?
Then we shift to looking to the year ahead. What are our priorities for the coming year? How will we make progress on the strategic plan? What areas in the AdvancEd standards that we need to work on? Part of this work happens in our three staff teams: the Cyber team, the Village team, and the Academy team. These groups focus on technology, building community within and outside of the school, and on academics, respectively.
Perhaps most importantly, this retreat provides staff members the chance to work together to develop a shared understanding of the direction of the school and each staff member's role in it. Keeps the team strong and CVA moving forward!

Mini Society

Mini-Society for grades 4 & 5 have begun! Ms. Claire
Mr. Hohl are in need of donations for the final auction that occurs at the end of Mini-Society. Students use the currency they have created and earned to purchase the items.

If you have any small toys, games, gift cards or similar items that a fourth and fifth graders would enjoy, please drop them off to Ms. Claire or Mr. Hohl by June 7th. It's amazing what treasures can be found in the dollar bins or the never-been-opened items available at garage sales.

Thanks in advance for your help!

NWEA MAP Testing

Now that we are done with state MCA testing, it is time for NWEA MAP testing! At Cyber Village Academy, we use the NWEA MAP tests to help us assess student needs and measure student growth in core subject areas. This data helps our staff to target specific course content areas as well as assess our overall school performance. To learn more about the NWEA MAP tests, you can visit the NWEA website:  http://www.nwea.org/

Students in kindergarten through 8th grade take the MAP test in the fall and again in the spring. Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students will be testing during on-campus class time. High school students will NOT be taking the NWEA MAP test this spring. Students in grades 4 through 8 will be taking both their NWEA reading and math tests during their single testing time on a Thursday or Friday. Please plan to bring your student in to school at their scheduled time:
  • Last Names A-F: Thursday, May 12th 8:30 am
  • Last Names G-K: Thursday, May 12th 12:30 pm
  • Last Names L-R: Thursday, May 19th 8:30 am
  • Last Names S-Z: Thursday, May 19th 12:30 pm
  • Make up session: Friday, May 20th 8:30 am

Please contact Melissa O-R if you have any questions.

Scent Free School Reminder

A reminder to the Cyber Village community that we are a scent free school. According to our handbook, "some of our students and staff members may have allergies or otherwise be sensitive to perfumes, colognes, and other strong odors. For this reason, we ask that students, parents and staff refrain from using or wearing such products on campus."
