Our Mission
| |
Cyber Village Academy prepares students to meet the challenge of a rapidly changing world with confidence by helping them to become
inquiring, knowledgeable, caring and active citizens who value academic rigor, integrity, self reliance and compassion.
|
|
The 2015-16 school calendar has been adopted by the board and is available here. There will be additional details as our plans for next year progress, but the overall calendar is complete and finalized.

Indoor Recess Policy
|
We all want the kids to be outside for recess as much as possible. Our winter weather policy is that if the wind chill is below zero, we'll keep them inside where they have their choice of games in the gym (usually dodgeball), quiet reading, or game room. If it's above zero wind chill, outside they go! Please make sure your students have appropriate clothing.
|
|
|
Flu Shots
Flu season is almost upon us! If it suits you medically, please consider getting a flu shot to keep you and those around you healthy! Usually, your corner drug store can do that for you.

, With winter's last days of 10 below zero wind chills this week, the excitement of spring, and perhaps this week's full moon made for a little squirreliness this week, but along with that, there were some great moments that speak volumes about the CVA culture. One boy left the lunch room convinced nobody liked him. Within a few minutes, several girls came out to find him and invited him to sit at their table with them. His day got better quickly. In another case, a student's books slipped out of his hands, and several other students stopped to help him pick them up. Things like this happen every day at CVA, and witnessing these brief moments of students helping and supporting one another - without any adult urging them to do so - is something I never get tired of. Lots of great kids here at CVA, and I'm thrilled that 96 percent of them have signed up to return next year! -Dave Glick

CVA Mitten Club
Thank you to everyone who has donated yarn! We have had enough generous donations to keep our club going through the cold season, so we no longer need yarn. If, however, you have any crochet hooks or knitting needles that need new homes, we are always looking for more.
Also, if you have old jeans (any color denim) that could be cut up for the shoes for Uganda, please send them along too.

π Day @ CVA
What is that? That symbol represents pi; a mathematical term. π is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. You need pi to calculate the circumference and area of a circle. Why Now? π represents a number that goes on forever, but generally speaking, we use the number 3.14 to represent pi. If you think in terms of month and date, the 3 would be March and 14 would be the 14th. So, Pi Day is March 14. What are we going to do to celebrate π Day? Well, since it is pronounced like the YUMMY pie that you eat, we are going to bring in pie for you to have with your lunch on Wednesday, March 11 (we have to celebrate early since there aren't regular on-campus classes on Saturday)!!!
How do I sign up for the pie? You can sign up with Robyn at any time at school. The last day to sign up is Tuesday, March 10. The cost is $3 - you must have your pay when you sign up for your pie.
What kind of pies are there? There is Georgia Pecan Pie, Chocolate Crme Pie, Cookies and Crme Pie and Key Lime Pie.

Speech Contest
This Saturday, some of the CVA Speech students will attend their first contest. Ingrid P. and Damari J. will be competing at the You Lucky Dog invitational at St. Anthony. Each student will perform a serious poetry interpretation in three rounds of judging.
Damari will be performing a collection of Maya Angelou poetry, emphasizing women's roles in society. Ingrid will show the emotions of dehumanization with "Jabberwocky" by Lewis Carroll and a poem called "The Circus Monster." Both students have been practicing for weeks to prepare and hope to move on to finals at You Lucky Dog.
The Speech team will also attend Sectionals later this season and hope to qualify for the State Contest as well.

Community and Service - Spotlight on 10th Grade
The 10th grade advisory has been hard at work performing services within their communities. Each student has chosen a volunteer opportunity where they will perform, document, and present on the meaningful work they have dedicated to bettering their community.
The 10th grade advisory has been successful at finding a wide variety of ways to help out, from helping a neighbor shovel snow, helping at church or youth events, to signing up with a large not-for-profit organization. One student has been volunteering with an organization called CLUES where she teaches English to young English Language Learners, another student is fostering animals through the Humane Society, and several students are working with an organization called Feed My Starving Children where they help prepare and deliver food to people in need. This project has even inspired students to brainstorm ideas for our advisory to go further by collecting donations and brainstorming ways our advisory can volunteer together as a shared experience. All of this hard work will be evident at the CVA Community and Service Fair.
Great job, sophomores - you are making a difference!!
