Globe in Hands

,

Every week is busy here at CVA, but last week was really exceptional! Science Fair on Tuesday saw a great turnout of parents, grandparents and friends. Projects were wide ranging, intriguing and beautifully displayed. The Minnesota Zoo field trip was hugely successful. The buses for everyone added both convenience and an additional chance for the students to socialize. Thursday was Give-to-the-Max Day and Spaghetti Dinner/Silent Auction. All together, we raised nearly $5000 for the school and for the Eighth Grade Eagle Bluff trip! Thanks to everyone for their support and generosity!

By Friday, we were all thoroughly exhausted. Next year, we'll spread out these events a little bit. This week was much more normal, and we can all catch up a little as we head into Thanksgiving. To all of those who celebrate it, enjoy the holiday and safe travels!

Cheers,

 -Dave Glick
Super Science Projects!!!

What a wonderful Science Fair!

Everyone had super projects!

Congratulations to the students who will advance to the regional fair and those who received special recognition for their hard work!

CVA Knowledge Club

Knowledge Club is a friendly competition among CVA high school students that will take place after school on Wednesdays.  The students will be assigned into teams  (which will be changing every few weeks) and will have to "buzz in" and answer the questions (much like Jeopardy, except with teams).  A winning team will be declared and the teams will be mixed up every couple of meets.

Students who are interested should contact Mr. Belshan and fill out this permission slip.  The first introductory meeting will take place on December 3rd, 2014.

Online Gaming Club

Do you like to play online games?  Do you like to work as a team to vanquish your foe?  Do you want to get better at communicating?  If you answered yes to any of these, the Online Gaming Club may be for you!

We will be playing Garry's Mod during the gaming club. This is a $10 game played on Steam in which there are hundreds of different mods.  At CVA we will be focusing on the team based mods in which you solve puzzles etc. We may even create our own mods if there is interest.

We have 3 available computers available on a first come first served basis, all other participants must bring their own computer to participate.

Dress for the Weather

Cyber Village Academy has outdoor recess all winter except when the temperature (including wind chill) reaches zero degrees or below. Please be sure your students come prepared for outdoor play with hats, gloves, warm jackets and, when the snow arrives, remember the boots.

Community & Service Fair

As a part of the "village" focus at Cyber Village Academy, we are asking that each child participate in community and service activities throughout the school year - it is quite possible that they are involved in one of these activities already.  Students should volunteer regularly throughout the year.  Students are not assigned a certain amount of volunteer hours or activities, but hope that everyone will find something they enjoy doing to help others...and do it often (weekly, monthly, etc. depending on the activity).

In advisory, students will receive a handout with possible volunteer activities (also attached).  This is not an extensive list by any means, just something to help you get started.

Students will also be completing a journal based on their volunteer activities (sample journal attached).  This journal is not only to keep students accountable, but it is a way for them to really reflect on what they are doing.  The journal will help students see the growth in themselves, how much they are contributing to the community, and understand their importance to others.  We are also asking that parents read the journal entries and sign off on each one.  Advisors will address how students can keep track of their journals, as they will need them for the Community and Service Fair.

At the end of the year, we will be having a Community and Service Fair to celebrate the efforts of the students. This fair will be on Wednesday, June 3 (more information on that will come later).

Students should collect brochures and pamphlets from the organizations where they volunteering to help make their Community and Service display.

Below are the links to the attached documents:

If you have any questions or concerns about Community and Service, please don't hesitate to contact your child's advisor.

Thank you for all of your support!

Yours for the kids,
The Team at
