Flu Shot

Flu Shots

Flu season is almost upon us! If it suits you medically, please consider getting a flu shot to keep you and those around you healthy! Usually, your corner drug store can do that for you.

Of the things I love about CVA, high on the list is the way our unique schedule drives the school/home partnership. While many schools struggle to get many parents truly involved in their students' education, that involvement at CVA is a natural part of most students working from home at least part of the time. Through that arrangement, parents have a much better understanding of how their students learn.

Whether it's the casual conversations at last night's Spaghetti Dinner or more formal conversations at IEP meetings or conferences, when parents and teachers talk about how to help their kids, it's easier to speak the same language about the student's habits and needs.

Thanks to everyone for making this partnership work!

CVA Picture Retakes
 Nov. 19th!

If you missed picture day, or your pictures weren't quite what you were expecting, never fear- retake day is here! On Wednesday, November 19th, we will have school picture retake day. If you ordered pictures from the first picture day that you don't like, simply bring them back to turn in to the photographer. You will not need to complete a new order form, and there is no cost to exchange the photos.

If you were absent on the first picture day and would like to order pictures, you can do so in advance online. Go to  www.mylifetouch.com and enter the picture day ID code MI194038Y1 to get started. If you prefer a paper order form, please see Melissa in the office to pick one up.

If you missed the first picture day for any reason, or if you are a new student to Cyber Village Academy, please plan to have your picture taken on retake day. Even if you do not plan on purchasing any pictures, your school photo is used to make your school ID badge and is listed in class photos and the yearbook. PASCAL students needing picture retakes should plan to arrive between 9:30 and 9:45 am to have their pictures taken.

MATH + ZOO = SUCCESS!!!

THANK YOU to all of the staff and parent chaperones for making this day a big success.  THANK YOU to the students who worked hard on their math packets (and still managed to have an excellent time).  We heard from several zoo staff and volunteers that they were very impressed with our groups.  Way to make CVA proud!!!

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

FERPA is a federal law that ensures all families have certain rights related to the private student data that schools maintain. It also describes the responsibilities of schools to maintain private student data and the data that schools can release without written parental permission.

For more information, see this linked document.

Community & Service Fair

As a part of the "village" focus at Cyber Village Academy, we are asking that each child participate in community and service activities throughout the school year - it is quite possible that they are involved in one of these activities already.  Students should volunteer regularly throughout the year.  Students are not assigned a certain amount of volunteer hours or activities, but hope that everyone will find something they enjoy doing to help others...and do it often (weekly, monthly, etc. depending on the activity).

In advisory, students will receive a handout with possible volunteer activities (also attached).  This is not an extensive list by any means, just something to help you get started.

Students will also be completing a journal based on their volunteer activities (sample journal attached).  This journal is not only to keep students accountable, but it is a way for them to really reflect on what they are doing.  The journal will help students see the growth in themselves, how much they are contributing to the community, and understand their importance to others.  We are also asking that parents read the journal entries and sign off on each one.  Advisors will address how students can keep track of their journals, as they will need them for the Community and Service Fair.

At the end of the year, we will be having a Community and Service Fair to celebrate the efforts of the students. This fair will be on Wednesday, June 3 (more information on that will come later).

Students should collect brochures and pamphlets from the organizations where they volunteering to help make their Community and Service display.

Below are the links to the attached documents:

If you have any questions or concerns about Community and Service, please don't hesitate to contact your child's advisor.

Thank you for all of your support!

College Choice Workshop!

On November 19th from 3:30-5:30, Jay Benanav will be coming to CVA to give a College workshop. Jay will be going over things like finding the right school for your child with a focus on price. College tuition continues to go up so it is imperative that parents and students pick the right college that both fits what they want out of college and fits their budget. This workshop will help with that.

There is no cost for the workshop, all parents need to do is show up to CVA's library at 3:30 on Wednesday November 19th.

If you have any questions please contact Jay Benanav at [email protected].
