Greetings!

With the end of the school year just around the corner, CVA is once again interested in collecting feedback from parents regarding our education system and practices. We'd appreciate it if you could complete the May 2013 Parent Feedback Survey by May 24. Thanks very much!

Dress Code

As the weather warms please be sure that your students are following the dress code as they choose cooler clothing.  Inappropriate clothing distracts from the learning environment, so we ask that students refrain from wearing spaghetti straps, crop tops and the like.  Also shorts should be as long as fingertips - with the shoulders relaxed.  Short shorts are not appropriate for school.

Talent Show =

Huge Success

The CVA students put on a wonderful talent show last night.  Performers included students in both the Fusion and PASCAL programs, as well as students from 3rd grade through high school. It was great to see these talents up on stage - YAY CVA!!!

Thank you to all of the parents, family members, friends and CVA Staff for helping to make this event - and CVA - so successful!

National History Day - Here We Come

As you read in last week's News from the Village, CVA has SIX students who are finalists for National History Day and will be travelling to Washington, D.C. in June to represent our school. We are so proud of our students!

Ethan D., Seamus F., Grace G. Sovigne G., Kirby G., and Noah R. are now busy getting ready for the competition by improving their projects. They're also busy fundraising to cover the fees for the National History Day event June 8 - 14. They're raising money for themselves, and also to make it possible for Mrs. Koenen to attend as their chaperone (Note: Mrs. Koenen's fees are now totally covered, thanks to donations from CVA parents at the talent show).

The six students and their parents would like to invite all CVA families and friends to attend a special National History Day Festival that the students have organized, 2 - 3 pm Sunday, May 26, at Clouds in Water Zen Center in downtown St. Paul. The Festival  will be your chance to see the student performances and website. Click here for more information: CVA National History Day Festival. (Fliers are also in student mailboxes.)  The festival is free, but there will be a donations box for contributions.

The costs for National History Day are nearly $900 per student and $1,000 for teachers and parents. Students are soliciting donations from family, friends and businesses, but they'd also like to ask CVA families to consider helping. The students will have a donations box at the school picnic and 8th grade graduation ceremony. Or, you can send a donation to the school, just be sure to write the check to "Minnesota Historical Society - History Day."

The students and families express deep gratitude to all who donated at the Talent Show last night. Donations totaled over $2,300, including a $1,000 check. Students still have a long way to go to raise their total fees, but with your help, they can do it.

  Science News

A biology teacher once told me...

it's what's on the inside that counts!

This was a successful week for the 7th and 8th graders performing dissections on frogs and pigs.  Next week:  the eye!

Rats in need of summer homes!

If you are interested, contact Mrs. Mann.

  Last Week of School

It is hard to believe, but the last week of school is coming right up! The last week of school, May 28th-31st, we will have a few changes to our usual CVA schedule. Please take note of the following:

-        There will be no school on Monday, May 27th in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.

-        Students will be on-campus for classes the rest of the week, including Thursday and Friday, May 30th and 31st.

-        The Community and Service Fair will be on Thursday, May 30th at 2:30. Families and community members are welcome and encouraged to attend.  Following the fair there will be the CVA Family Picnic outside!

-        Track and Field Day has been rescheduled for Friday, May 31st.

-        8th grade graduation will be Friday, May 31st at 4:30 pm.

8th Grade Graduation

Graduation will be held on campus at CVA on Friday, May 31st at 4:30 p.m. There will be a short ceremony followed by a reception. Please mark this on your calendar! We look forward to celebrating with the graduating class!  Students will be receiving their invitations in their mailboxes.

Note: Graduating students are encouraged to dress up!

Current 7th grade families: We're looking for volunteers to help serve cake and lemonade for the reception following graduation. Please contact Kelly if you are interested in volunteering.

CVA Library

Emails are going out this week to students (and their parents) who still have books checked out of the CVA or TTSP libraries.  If you have questions about TTSP books, please contact Lydia Schultz.  If you have questions about CVA books, please contact Christy Buxman.
Please make every effort to locate these books and return them promptly.  Replacement books of the same title and form (hardcover/paperback) or library donations to cover replacement costs are also accepted.

Spring Clean-Up

and Planting

Just a reminder the clean-up is coming soon!

Saturday, May 18 from 9 - 12 noon.

Don't forget to send in your RSVP form so we have a head count.  We want to know how many wood chips to order.

For the spring cleanup form, click here or check the Parent Group website for more information.

*Date was changed to the 18th due to the late spring, Mother's Day and Fishing Opener on the 11th.

Community and

Service Fair

CVA is presenting its 5th Annual Community and Service Fair at CVA on Thursday, May 30.  The fair will begin at 2:30 PM; parents, families, friends, and community members are invited to attend.

Students will receive a copy of this handout to help them get an idea of what their project will encompass and how they will receive feedback.  Participation is required by all 3-8 CVA Fusion students.

If you have specific questions, please contact your child's advisor.  We look forward to celebrating your child and his/her involvement!

End of Year Picnic

Come and join your CVA friends and family for a fun picnic get-together! Thursday, May 30th at 4:00 pm, bring a dish to share and your picnic blankets. Lawn games are welcome.  This is an annual event and is a great time to celebrate the year we've shared together.  Please note that it immediately follows the Community and Service Fair, so make an effort to come to both events!

In the event of rain, the picnic will be canceled.
