Our Mission

Cyber Village Academy prepares students to meet the challenge of a rapidly changing world with confidence by helping them to become

inquiring, knowledgeable, caring and active citizens who value academic rigor, integrity, self reliance and compassion.

Greetings!

There's so much going on around here, it's hard to keep up!  Students and teachers got home safely from a trip to Washington D.C.; CVA has students competing in the State History Day competition tomorrow; 8th graders are leaving for Eagle Bluff on Monday; and 3rd-5th graders are anticipating their first market day in Mini-Society on Tuesday. Teachers are busy planning for all of the other end of year activities like the Community and Service Fair, 8th grade graduation, and field day to name a few.

Due to the flurry of activity (not to mention the flurry of snow!), it becomes more difficult to stay focused at this time of year.  I encourage you to review your academic goals and set some clear objectives on how to accomplish those goals in these final weeks.

Study Center Closed

The study center will be CLOSED on Friday, May 10th, due to the staff retreat. No CVA staff will be in the building on that day, so please do not plan to come in to work at school. Staff will be available to answer student questions about school work via e-mail.

The study center will still be open on Thursday, May 9th.

Talent Show and Silent Auction

What: CVA Talent Show & Silent Dessert Auction

Where: CVA Gym

Date:  Thursday, May 16, 2013

Time: Talent Show beginning at 7:00 P.M.  (Dessert Auction during Intermission)

Your Part

  1. Bring in a dessert for the auction. (Tables will be set up for the dessert auction near the entrance of the auditorium.)
  2. Support CVA by bidding on the desserts.
  3. Cheer on our students as they display visual and creative talents.

Silent Auction Guidelines

  1. Desserts will be placed on tables near the entry.  Please have them set out prior to the beginning of the talent show.
  2. You are to wander around (socialize), feasting your eyes on the scrumptious desserts that are up for bid, signing your name and dollar amount to any and all that make your mouth water.
  3. Make sure to go back to double (and triple) check your favorites to be sure that no one out-bids you!
  4. At the end of the allotted auction time (intermission), all bids will cease.
  5. Immediately following the intermission, winners of the delicious desserts will be announced.  Payment is needed at this time.

May Lunch Orders

Lunch orders for May are due in the office by April 29. For a copy of the form, click here. All Monday and Tuesday hot lunches must be pre-ordered and pre-paid! Please do not send money with your child in the morning to purchase a lunch for that same day.

Pizza Wednesdays will continue offering cheese and pepperoni pizza for $3 per slice or 2 slices for $5. However, students are requested to pay in advance into a lunch account using the attached order form rather than bringing cash each week.

Milk is also available daily at a cost of $0.05 to students. Students can sign up for milk in advance, or purchase it daily.

  Class Photos

This year the CVA Parent Group is sponsoring class photos (grades 3 - 12). Pictures will be taken during recess on Tuesday, May 14th.

An order form will be placed in all mailboxes next week.  Class pictures will be 8 x 10 and include the names of all classmates, including those who are not able to participate on the day.  There is a discount for multiple orders from a single family.   Pricing is $5 for 1, $8 for 2, and $10 for 3.

Thank you to all the parent volunteers who have made this project possible.

Student Council in Action

The CVA Student Council successfully completed their last "sandwich-making" activity of the year for Our Saviour's Housing in Minneapolis.  Along with many bags of chips, granola bars and candies, Aniq A, Seamus F, and Mackenna K made 57 sandwiches to deliver to the shelter.  What a great way to show you care!  Thanks for volunteering!

CVA Library

The CVA library will be closed starting May 16.  Turn in all library books as soon as possible so we can take inventory and track down any missing materials before the end of the school year.  This is a great time to check in those couch cushions and under those car seats for forgotten books!

TTSP will be closing their library too, so please be sure to return all those books as well.  Thanks for your help!

Spring Clean-Up

and Planting

School/park grounds clean-up, planting, picnic
Saturday, May 18, 2013*
9:00 a.m. - 12 Noon

We need YOU!  No gardening experience required.

  • You, and your family, are invited to participate in the first annual CVA Spring Clean-Up and Planting.
  • It's a great way to have family time, meet new people and be a part of the "Village".
  • It's also a great way to get community service hours in for the kids and school volunteer hours for the parents; all while enjoying the spring weather-finally!
  • Let's make the school grounds beautiful for the year-end picnic, 8th grade graduation and to be good neighbors.
  • Bring a blanket & picnic lunch to eat afterward -while we relax, visit and admire our beautiful work!

We would like to have an idea of how many people will be coming so we order the right amount of wood chips and have the right length "to do" list, so mark your calendar and fill out the Spring Clean-Up form (click here) or check the Parent Group website for more information.

*Date was changed to the 18th due to the late spring, Mother's Day and Fishing Opener on the 11th.

A Big Thank You

We had four great parents volunteer their time to come in and speak to the Technology classes about the use of the design cycle in their work.  They even went the extra mile to create powerpoint presentations to help explain their work or to show the connections between their design process and our design cycle.  (If you'd like to see them, check out the Speakers tab on the Technology class website.  One more will be added next week.

Thank you to:

  • Sheyna Galyan, owner Yotzeret Publishing
  • Tom Warner, Senior Project Architect
  • Randy Walker, Public Artist
  • Roy Liang, Software Engineer

And thank you to those who expressed interest, but we ran out of time to have you come in.  Maybe next year?!

~Patty McDonald, Technology Teacher

Musical

The students' work last week was wonderful!  They really pitched in and did their best!  I heard beautiful singing with great diction.

I saw wonderful smiling faces and nice costumes.  Eyes were on me and everyone was right on cue.

The cast in both shows was great - wonderful characters and clear voices.  It was the best lemonade I have ever tasted.  (Hope you get that one!)

Next year, we will make sure to have a monsoon date on the calendar to make it a little easier if looks like we are having a 'Slushy' Musical.

My deepest appreciation to all families for helping to make this a successful performance and learning experience for the students.

Thanks for pulling together the lovely costumes, driving your students, helping to film and all around just being there.

For those of you who couldn't make it to see the great performance of The Nightingale there are clips of the musical posted on the cvatechnology youtube channel.  Here is a link.
