| Greetings!
The weather finally turned, and it's now almost possible to believe that there's just 5 weeks left in the school year! However, five weeks is still 14 percent of the year, so our work is far from over. Even better is that learning doesn't end with the end of the school year.
This summer, we're offering online coursework for all students. We'll use the same curriculum, Odysseyware, that we use in our PASCAL program during the year. ALEKS, the math program, will also be available during the summer. Both of these optional, fee-based summer programs can be very effective in preparing for next fall.
For more information, check out the infrmation links below or on our website.

Where: CVA Gym
Date: Thursday, May 16, 2013
Time: Talent Show beginning at 7:00 P.M. (Dessert Auction during Intermission)
Your Part
- Bring in a dessert for the auction. (Tables will be set up for the dessert auction near the entrance of the auditorium.)

Silent Auction Guidelines
- Desserts will be placed on tables near the entry. Please have them set out prior to the beginning of the talent show.
- You are to wander around (socialize), feasting your eyes on the scrumptious desserts that are up for bid, signing your name and dollar amount to any and all that make your mouth water.
- Make sure to go back to double (and triple) check your favorites to be sure that no one out-bids you!
- At the end of the allotted auction time (intermission), all bids will cease.
- Immediately following the intermission, winners of the delicious desserts will be announced. Payment is needed at this time.

May Lunch Orders
Lunch orders for May are due in the office by April 29. For a copy of the form, click here. All Monday and Tuesday hot lunches must be pre-ordered and pre-paid! Please do not send money with your child in the morning to purchase a lunch for that same day.
Pizza Wednesdays will continue offering cheese and pepperoni pizza for $3 per slice or 2 slices for $5. However, students are requested to pay in advance into a lunch account using the attached order form rather than bringing cash each week.
Milk is also available daily at a cost of $0.05 to students. Students can sign up for milk in advance, or purchase it daily.

Student Email Accounts
CVA will be moving the hosting of student email to Gmail this summer. This does not mean you will have a "@gmail.com" email account. Your email address will remain the same. The move will be completed the first week of July. Here is the important information you need to be aware of:
Before the switch
NONE of your files or emails will be moved to Gmail.
If you have any contacts, emails, or files in CVA's current student email system, please start saving that information. After the switch over is complete, your old accounts will be deactivated and you will no longer be able to access that account.
After the switch
Starting July 1st, make sure to use the Student Email link on CVA's website. When the move is complete, we will change that link to point to our new server.
Your email address will NOT change.
When logging onto email, you will no longer need the "@cva.k12.mn.us". Only enter your username (everything before the @ in your email address).
The password you use to logon will NOT change.
If you have any questions, please contact Gerry.

Student Spotlight
Ethan D. was just cast in an upcoming concert! It'll be an extra history lesson in Theatre Latte Da's Steerage Song, which has been described as a music-theatre documentary about the immigrant era of Ellis Island. For more information, click here.

Donations for Little Big Town
Mini-Society has begun, and the students have determined the name of the society. We are now officially known as Little Big Town! Mrs. Koenen and Christy are in need of donations for the final auction that occurs at the end of Mini-Society. Our currency is called unicorn horns. Students use unicorn horns they have earned to purchase the items.
If you have any small toys, games, gift cards or similar items that third, fourth and fifth graders would enjoy, please drop them off to Mrs. Koenen or Christy. It's amazing what treasures can be found in the dollar bins or the never-been-opened items available at garage sales.
Thanks so much for the donations that have come in so far! Your generosity is appreciated! |
LAST CALL
for Yearbook Orders
In order to guarantee that your child has a yearbook we must have your preorder by this coming Tuesday at the very latest. Please give your order and check to Melissa by Tuesday, April 30th.
Our team has been hard at work putting together a fabulous, 64 page, full color yearbook to collect some great memories! Order forms are available in the office or to print your own, click here. Each yearbook is $10, but if your family orders more than one (for siblings) there is a $1 discount for the 2nd, $2 for the 3rd, $3 for the 4th and so on. To guarantee a yearbook your order needs to be in to Melissa by April 30th.
LAST CALL FOR 8TH GRADE BABY/TODDLER PICTURES
In order to include a picture of your 8th grader as a little one we must have an electronic copy of the picture by tomorrow (Saturday, April 27) at the latest.
Please email the picture to Lauren Odle . The ones we have so far are just darling, and the students consistently love this feature. Thanks! Yearbooks will be distributed the last week of school. |

CVA Spring Clean-Up
and Planting
Saturday, May 11
9:00 a.m - Noon
CVA School Grounds
This is our first Annual Spring Clean-Up. (Hopefully the snow will be gone!) Bring your family to help keep our school grounds beautiful. Your child can also get Community Service credit for this, and you can get credit towards your volunteer hours for CVA. If you are an avid gardener or Master Gardener and can help us in the planning stages that would be great. Please see the link at the bottom of this notice to let us know.
We will be:
- Cleaning up litter
- Cleaning out garden beds
- Spreading mulch
- Planting new flowers/plants
Bring a blanket and picnic lunch (for your family), too--so afterwards we can hang-out, visit, eat and admire our handiwork!
More detailed information will be coming soon, or you can always check the Parent Group website . To go directly to the Spring Clean-Up & Planting page, click here.
