| Greetings!
I have the same question on my mind as everyone else this week: When will the snow end!?? Oh well, at least the sun is shining now. Mr. S. just reminded me that Field Day is supposed to be in less than two weeks - May 1!
Thank you to everyone for their patience as we worked on the decision to postpone the musicals on Thursday. The older kids were working on the dress rehearsal when Mrs. Naglak and I conferred, and it was great to see them all in their costumes and so ready for the performance. Once it finally happens, it's going to be great! Stay tuned for a finalized date. Hope to see you all there!

May Lunch Orders
Lunch orders for May are due in the office by April 29. For a copy of the form, click here. All Monday and Tuesday hot lunches must be pre-ordered and pre-paid! Please do not send money with your child in the morning to purchase a lunch for that same day.
Pizza Wednesdays will continue offering cheese and pepperoni pizza for $3 per slice or 2 slices for $5. However, students are requested to pay in advance into a lunch account using the attached order form rather than bringing cash each week.
Milk is also available daily at a cost of $0.05 to students. Students can sign up for milk in advance, or purchase it daily.

Student Email Accounts
CVA will be moving the hosting of student email to Gmail this summer. This does not mean you will have a "@gmail.com" email account. Your email address will remain the same. The move will be completed the first week of July. Here is the important information you need to be aware of:
Before the switch
NONE of your files or emails will be moved to Gmail.
If you have any contacts, emails, or files in CVA's current student email system, please start saving that information. After the switch over is complete, your old accounts will be deactivated and you will no longer be able to access that account.
After the switch
Starting July 1st, make sure to use the Student Email link on CVA's website. When the move is complete, we will change that link to point to our new server.
Your email address will NOT change.
When logging onto email, you will no longer need the "@cva.k12.mn.us". Only enter your username (everything before the @ in your email address).
The password you use to logon will NOT change.
If you have any questions, please contact Gerry.

Student Spotlight
Zander D. ("Zandrax") recently won third place in a Minecraft contest held by St. Paul Public Libraries. Feedback from judging was, "Judges were wowed by the obvious care and effort you took in designing your Hogwarts library, as well as very charmed by the video tour. The dance floor, as well as dancing, were a huge hit!" Zander was awarded an iTunes gift card.

Family Fun Night
Huge Success!
What a great night! I'm sorry if you had to miss it--we had a lot of fun! About 27 families attended, including toddlers, kids, teens, parents and grandparents, for about 90 - 100 people. We had some action packed dodge ball games, amazing origami, beautiful art work, silly photos, new martial arts moves, rousing games and bingo! See the slide show on the
Thanks to all of the volunteers who made it happen--and for going the extra mile to get supplies, come early to set up, and work all night to make sure things went smoothly. Volunteers were Julie Swanson, Dana White, Misha Liang, Michelle Albrecht de Grados, Amber Van Dyke, Jenny Edgerton, Roy Liang, Carlos Grados, Emeline Beager, and Carl Anderson. Our door watchers were also appreciated, or no one would have gotten in: Dave Glick, Megan Cole, Beth Samy, and Chad Rosa.
We're thinking of having the Second Annual Family Fun Night in the fall next year. We'll keep you posted. Hope you can make it!

Mini-Society Donations
Mini-Society for Levels A and B will begin next week! Mrs. Koenen and Christy are in need of donations for the final auction that occurs at the end of Mini-Society. Students use the currency they have created and earned to purchase the items.
If you have any small toys, games, gift cards or similar items that third, fourth and fifth graders would enjoy, please drop them off to Mrs. Koenen or Christy. It's amazing what treasures can be found in the dollar bins or the never-been-opened items available at garage sales.
Thanks in advance for your help! And thank you to the Taylor family for your generous donation this week! |
Open House for Cherie
TODAY, FRIDAY, APRIL 19!
4:30-6:00 PM
CVA is hosting an open house to honor Cherie Neima who has retired this year after dedicating 15 years to CVA's success. As the first teacher hired and a board member when the school was started, her efforts and personal sacrifice through the years have resulted in many valuable policies and practices within the school, among them a spirit of excellence and academic achievement, of caring and community.
If you and your children would like to express your appreciation for Cherie, please plan to attend the open house in the library at CVA. If you would like to contribute snacks of any sort please email Jennifer Naglak. We are also making a memory book so if you would like to contribute a picture and/or a short memory to share with Cherie please email them to Lauren Odle.
If you are in contact with CVA alumni please pass this message along. See you then! |
Yearbooks Are Coming
Our team has been hard at work putting together a fabulous, 64 page, full color yearbook to collect some great memories! Order forms went into mailboxes last week or to print your own, click here. Each yearbook is $10, but if your family orders more than one (for siblings) there is a $1 discount for the 2nd, $2 for the 3rd, $3 for the 4th and so on. To guarantee a yearbook your order needs to be in to Melissa by April 30th.
In the past parents have had fun tormenting their graduating 8th graders by including a picture from their younger years as babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary students. LAST CALL - If you are interested in this (no cost) activity, please email the picture to Lauren Odle by April 26th. If you need one scanned she can also help with that.
Also, if you are interested in placing an advertisement for your business there is space available at $100 for a full page ad, $50 for ½ page, and $25 for a quarter page. Please contact Lauren Odle if you are interested in this. This deadline is also April 19th .
Yearbooks will be distributed the last week of school.
