| Greetings!
In the past couple weeks, two high-profile technology companies, Yahoo! and Best Buy, have moved towards less telecommuting and a return to more traditional work hours and situations. They claim to have needed more face time, more accountability, and more productivity. Certainly at least those last two are laudable goals for all organizations. However, I wonder if the first, more face time, necessarily leads to the others.
Sure, maybe Facebook is more addicting than the water cooler or even the solitaire games built into Windows, but is more face time the answer? Here at CVA, we believe that the online days provide students with the opportunity to learn more independence, become more self motivated, and better develop responsibility for their own learning. If Yahoo! and Best Buy were populated by graduates of CVA or even fully online schools, would the decision to eliminate telecommuting still have been made? In another decade or two when more people have attended such schools, will telecommuting return to high favor?
Great things to ponder on a beautiful Friday afternoon!

π Day @ CVA!
What is that? That symbol represents pi; a mathematical term. π is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. You need pi to calculate the circumference and area of a circle.
Why now? π represents a number that goes on forever, but generally speaking, we use the number 3.14 to represent pi. If you think in terms of month and date, the 3 would be March and 14 would be the 14th. So, Pi Day is March 14.
What are we going to do to celebrate π Day? Well, since it is pronounced like the YUMMY pie that you eat, we are going to bring in pie for you to have with your lunch on Wednesday, March 13!!! (We have to celebrate a day early since there aren't regular on-campus classes on Thursdays.)
How do I sign up for the pie? You can sign up with Robyn at any time on Friday, March 8, Monday, March 11 or Tuesday, March 12. The cost is $3.
What kind of pies are there? There is Georgia Pecan Pie, Chocolate Crème Pie, Cookies and Crème Pie and Key Lime Pie. |
NEW! Parent Group
Meeting every other Monday morning
from 8:15 - 9:00 a.m. in Room 214
March 11, 18; April 1, 15, 29; May 13, 27
Mark your calendar now!
In the spirit of the new emphasis on our name - particularly the Village part - I am starting a Parent Group. All parents/guardians are invited! Drop off your child(ren), come in to Room 214 and meet/talk with other parents about school, ways we can help the school, how our kids are doing, and anything else a parent wants to discuss.
One event parents could possibly be in charge of and talk about is the new School Clean Up/Spruce Up on Saturday, May 11 that I am organizing. This would involve cleaning the school grounds, cleaning up the gardens, spreading mulch and planting new plants.
Bring your coffee and morning pastry and join me!
