| Greetings!
It has been another busy and exciting week at school! Last weekend, several of our students won Science Fair awards at the regional competition and now move on to State. History Day on Tuesday was a huge success, and 18 of our students are moving on to the regional competition. Great work, everyone, and thanks to everyone who attended to see the projects!
Tuesday's school board meeting solidified the direction the school will be taking, and Wednesday's Funny Glasses Day provided plenty of amusement. The end of the trimester and the deadline for re-enrollment forms closed out the week. Enrollments are looking great for next year, with 143 students already signed up (compared to 129 at this time last year)! We go into March energized, optimistic, and ready for spring!

NEW! Parent Group
Meeting every other Monday morning
from 8:15 - 9:00 a.m. in Room 214
March 11, 18; April 1, 15, 29; May 13, 27
Mark your calendar now!
In the spirit of the new emphasis on our name - particularly the Village part - I am starting a Parent Group. All parents/guardians are invited! Drop off your child(ren), come in to Room 214 and meet/talk with other parents about school, ways we can help the school, how our kids are doing, and anything else a parent wants to discuss.
One event parents could possibly be in charge of and talk about is the new School Clean Up/Spruce Up on Saturday, May 11 that I am organizing. This would involve cleaning the school grounds, cleaning up the gardens, spreading mulch and planting new plants.
Bring your coffee and morning pastry and join me!

New Adventures for Cherie
You may remember that Cherie Neima, our long-time social studies teacher and IB coordinator, officially retired in the spring but was good enough to stay on as our IB coordinator. With the board vote this week, Cherie can now retire for real! She is looking forward to new opportunities in her retirement, including a 6-week adventure to China this year. She'll continue to spend time at her homes in Nova Scotia and St. Paul.
She has been a part of the CVA family for 15 years and will continue to be interested in our efforts and accomplishments in the years to come as we stay mindful of her often used phrase to "Bump it up to the next level!" We hope she visits us often! You may contact her at cneima@yahoo.com. |
The Student Council/ECO Club says THANK YOU to all who donated money for Pennies for Patients.
We collected $461.25 - surpassing our goal of $450 in donations!!!
You should all be proud. CONGRATULATIONS!!! |

Bridging Collection
Imagine...how would you cook a meal with basic kitchen utensils? There are thousands of local families and individuals who face this difficult situation every day. Help today and support the Sol Walker CVA Kitchen Pack Collection for Bridging, a local non-profit organization. For information about Bridging, click here.
Sol W. will be collecting new and gently used kitchen items (can openers, mixing spoons, spatulas, dish towels/cloths, ladles, whisks, peelers, etc.) as well as money donations, which he will use to purchase additional kitchen items. Sol will then assemble the utensils into packs and deliver them to Bridging. Checks can be made out to his mom, Sarah Binkley. The last day for donations is Wednesday, March 6th. The donation box is located in Christy's classroom. |
Congratulations to CVA's own Trey K who raised $140 for Special Olympics by doing the Polar Plunge last weekend! We're proud of you! |
Book Orders
Scholastic Book order forms will be put in mailboxes next week. If you are interested in ordering, please be sure the order form and a check made out to Scholastic is turned in to the office by Wednesday, March 20.

Energy Tip of the Week
brought to you by the CVA Student Council/Eco Team
People have dumped garbage in the frogs' home. Become a Trash Trooper and help clean up the mess! To play the game, click here.
Remember, throwing any garbage into the environment is polluting. It's unhealthy for the environment and for all the creatures that live in it. You can help keep habitat clean and healthy with the 3Rs - Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Even though all of the garbage in this game goes into a trash can, think about whether any of the trash you pick up can be reused or recycled. |
