Greetings!

Thank you to everyone who completed the survey about the IB program here at CVA! We received 46 responses representing a very wide range of perspectives.

A few highlights:

  • 65.2 percent support maintaining and enhancing IB for Grades 6-8.
  • 60 percent say that it is probably or well worth the money.
  • 60 percent say that it is probably or well worth the time.
  • 56.5 percent oppose eliminating the IB program; 26.1 percent would consider leaving or probably leave CVA if it were eliminated.
  • 59.9 percent support expanding CVA's IB MYP to include Grades 9 and 10.
  • 45.8 percent support expanding IB to include the primary years program.

Based on this data and many other factors, I will be recommending to the board that we maintain or increase our commitment to IB for Grades 6-8 for this year and next, and that over the course of next year, we consider expanding the Middle Years Programme to include Grades 9 and 10. The board will make its decision at its February 26 meeting.

Thanks again to everyone who responded; this community input is so very important!

Volunteer to be a

History Day Judge -

Please!

We are in great need of volunteers for History Day at CVA. We need 20 judges and we only have 10 at this point. If we have 20 + judges, each judging team of two will judge 5 projects and we can be done in an hour. If we don't have 20 judges, the event will last much longer than 3:00 to 4:00 on Tuesday, February 26. Please help us stay on schedule and volunteer today!

Mrs. Koenen will give you all the information before the event including questions to ask and brief forms to fill out for each project. Judges will meet in the Social Studies room at 2:00 and begin judging at 2:45. Then they will meet back in the classroom after the judging is over to determine who will go on to Regionals. Please contact Mrs. Koenen to volunteer!

Re-Enrollment Time

For families whose children will be returning to CVA next year, our reenrollment window is now open.  Current families have preference for next year's placement, and siblings have priority over new families.

Enrollment will be open to the public via lottery on March 1st for any spots still unfilled by current CVA families. Enrollment forms have been placed in student mailboxes, or you can download and print the form by clicking here

Enrollment forms should be returned to Melissa in the front office.  We look forward to working with your family again in the coming school year!

Last Call for Concordia Language Village Paperwork

If your level 1 or older child is interested in participating in the optional Concordia Language Village Overnight Field Trip March 14-15, I must have his/her registration form, health form and $70 made out to Concordia Language Villages by this coming Wednesday, Feb. 14th.   We will have room for 10 more students.  For a copy of the registration form, click here.   For a copy of the health form, click here.  If you have any questions please email Lauren Odle.

Scent-free

We have several students and teachers who are allergic to colognes and perfumes. We ask that students, parents and staff please refrain from wearing scents to school. Thank you for your cooperation!

Pennies for Patients

Over the next few weeks, your child will have the opportunity to learn first-hand, the powerful feeling that comes from helping others. Pennies for Patients is a service learning program in which kids collect spare change to help people with blood cancer.

Funds are collected from friends and family in honor of local student survivors and current patients.

This is week 1 of our Pennies for Patients Drive.  So far, we have raised over $100 for the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society.  Our goal by Friday, Feb 22 is to reach $450.  If the students achieve/surpass this goal, the teachers will dress up as a "food item" for a day.  To learn more about the LLS or Pennies for Patients, please click here

Lice

CVA Parents: A case of head lice has been reported by a CVA family. The case was found early and the student was treated immediately. However, please take precautions and check your students to ensure that lice do not spread.   For more information, click here.

Science Pets Need Your Help

Rats: need bedding and rat food

Turtles: water filter

Gecko: moss

If you can contribute e-mail Mrs. Mann.

Energy Tip of the Week

brought to you by the CVA Student Council/Eco Team

Let the sun in. The sun's energy can have a noticeable effect on the temperature in your home, especially from windows facing south and west. Keep window shades and drapes open during winter months to let in the sun's radiant heat.

Restock Your Pencil Supply

Please be sure you have an ample supply of sharpened pencils ready for use at school.  Maybe it's time to restock your supply!

Foodshelf

Thanks to everyone who has donated so far!  We have so far collected  35 lbs. of food and 10 dollars to donate to the Little Kitchen Food Shelf! The collection box will be in the front entrance for one more week.

With monetary donations, the Little Kitchen is able to purchase up to $9 worth of food for each $1 contributed.  If you would like to make a secure online donation to Little Kitchen Food Shelf, please visit their website by clicking here.

I will be delivering donations in March to the Little Kitchen Food Shelf as a part of the 30th annual March food drive campaign.

Thanks,
