Greetings!
Learning thrives on high quality feedback, and for feedback to be high quality, it must be timely, specific, and clear about strengths as well as areas for improvement. This is all true whether we're talking about teachers providing feedback to students, coaches providing feedback to athletes, or directors providing feedback to actors. It needs to address the product, performance or action, and not the person. It should happen in a time frame that allows the responsible person or people to improve based on that feedback so the next performance is improved. This applies to schools, too. To that end, we're asking for your feedback now, early in the school year, so we can recognize and highlight our strengths, improve on our areas of weakness, and otherwise strive to make CVA the best school it can possibly be. Please take a few minutes to complete this online survey. The upcoming online days and break provide a great time to do that, so please complete the survey before October 20. Your thoughtful and candid responses are much appreciated! Thanks! |

Attendance
Our unique schedule requires a unique approach to attendance. For on-campus days, attendance is done traditionally, based on physical presence in the classroom. For online days, intellectual presence rather than physical presence is required. That means students must show significant progress towards learning or work completion to be marked "present" in each class. There must be evidence of engagement and progress. It's not enough to just log in, nor does a mere physical presence in Study Center count during online days. This approach is intended to help motivate students to complete their work and to move towards learning-based attendance rather that seat-time based attendance. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Scholastic Book Fair
The book fair will be open from 7-8 during the dance/fun night.
It will also be open all next week during conferences. The times are as follows:
MON: 7:30 to 2:30
TUES: 12-8
WED: 9-12
You can also shop online!
A few perks of the online fair are:

Staff Snacks for Conferences
Interested in showing your appreciation for Cyber Village Academy teachers and staff? We are seeking finger-foods and snacks to have available for staff during parent teacher conferences, October 15th-17th. Baked goods, dips and chips or crackers, fruits and veggies, or anything else you can think of would be greatly appreciated! If you would like to set up a crock-pot with a warm item, we can do that as well. If you can bring your item to the school on Monday morning, that is preferred. However, if you are not able to come to CVA on Monday but have a conference scheduled later that week and can bring your food item during your conference time that is just fine. If you have a Tupperware or crock pot that you would like returned, please label the item with your name so that we can return it to you. Thank you!!!

Annual Spaghetti Dinner
and Silent Auction
CVA 8th graders will once again be putting on their annual SPAGHETTI DINNER and SILENT AUCTION here at CVA to help cover the cost for Eagle Bluff (the annual 8th grade end of the year field trip)!!! The date and time for this year's event is Thursday, November 1st from 6:30pm - 8:30pm. Please mark this date down on your calendar as this is an event for the entire CVA Community. Feel free to bring family and friends.
- The spaghetti dinner will be conducted similarly to last year in a more eco friendly way. We are asking that families, if possible, bring their own re-usable dishes, silverware and glasses. The 8th graders will provide a washing/drying station for the dishes as well. (The 8th graders will do the washing and drying! :-) If you are unable to bring your own dishware, don't worry. We will still serve you!!
- The cost is $5 per person or $20 for a family of 4 or more. Checks should be made payable to CVA. To purchase tickets you can either buy them at the door or you can buy tickets from Melissa. (This method is preferred so we can plan for the correct amount of food and have limited waste.)
- The cost includes spaghetti, breadsticks, salad, desserts and beverage. Please note that there will be vegetarian and gluten free options available in noodles, sauce, meatballs, dinner rolls, and desserts!!
- Please note for the silent auction we will have "BUY IT NOW" prices available on all items. This will allow for families to purchase items right away for a certain amount.
Each Advisory class is invited to create a basket for our Silent Auction to raise money for the 8th grade trip to Eagle Bluff in May. Each advisory will decide on a theme for their basket and individual students will be asked to purchase a small item for the basket keeping with the theme. Christy's class has decided to create an arts and crafts basket!
Click here for a list of the Silent Auction items we have received so far.
If you have any questions please contact Ms. Jane, Mrs. Koenen or Mrs. Mann.

Concordia Language Villages
Every year the 6th - 11th graders have the opportunity to go on an overnight field trip to the Wilder Forest (near Stillwater, MN) to experience a Concordia Language Village. The entire 2 days are conducted in Spanish and it is a fabulous chance for your student to be immersed in Spanish language and Culture. This year's theme is Indigenous Cultures and Traditions and will include new games, foods and crafts. The two (identical) trips are planned for November 15-16 and March 14 & 15. Permission slips were placed in student mailboxes this week for the November trip and are due by October 15. The cost is $69 per student which includes room, board and programming. We will carpool to and from the camp. For every 10 students we need to provide one parent chaperone, so if you are interested in coming along with your student please let Lauren Odle know. This is a first come/first served opportunity on both the camp and the chaperoning. The maximum number of students I can take at a time is 25. More details on the camp can be found at www.concordialanguagevillages.com
