Greetings,
I am relieved to watch the ice melt and the dampness lift as we welcome the warm breeze that is now amongst us. As the sun starts peaking through the clouds, there is a certain bustle in the city of Quincy. My staff and I look forward to seeing all of our wonderful clients each spring as they come in Allure for wedding parties, waxing services, pedicures and hair highlighting as they prepare for the new season.
Each May as we celebrate Mother's Day, we are reminded by the amazing women in our community. This particular day gives us an opportunity to celebrate and honor all mothers by remembering those who aren't here with us today, to feel grateful and special as mothers, and to also acknowledge the women who are natural nurturers to each of us.
Last month commemorated 20 years since Allure Spa opened its doors. I am very blessed to have been given the opportunity to serve all of our clients as well as share stories and often continue a friendly relationship with them. There is one commonality that I have witnessed amongst all the women who have entered Allure Spa: we are all multi-taskers!
I came to the United States from Trinidad about 25 years ago. Initially, it was very difficult to build a strong foundation here in Massachusetts. I didn't realize the most challenging job would come thereafter. A few years later after our move, I learned I was pregnant with my first child. When I was six months pregnant, my Mother, "Mommy", passed away suddenly of a massive heart attack. I was so deeply saddened to lose such a big part of me especially being away from home. Mommy was always so encouraging as she referred to my sisters and I as her "beautiful daughters." She taught me good faith and instilled in each of her children the value of observing our faith each Sunday at church. When my son Christian was born three months later, I remember holding this amazing miracle in my arms and became focused on all the joy he brought me. Although Mommy wasn't there in person to see the birth of my first child, I felt that she had delivered the most perfect gift to me; Christian. Mommy's spirit has always been a guiding light for me, and I have felt her every step of the way from that very day when I entered Motherhood. From that first day that I held my baby Christian in my arms, to this very second, nothing has changed. Aside from owning my own business, I have learned to integrate washing laundry, dishes, picking up, dropping off, dishes, making dinner, planning family functions and did I mention washing the dishes is never ending?
Mother's Day is very rewarding for me too. Although, my my oldest is a young adult and my youngest is in the prime of his teenage years, they are always so sensitive to their mother's needs. This past Easter, my family was frantically getting ready for church. Under all the chaos, my son Christian remarked, "Mom, you look like a doll." My heart melted and it reminded me that it's the small gestures that truly make a difference. I feel very blessed that I can still give my children back massages and help them pick out their outfits despite their ages. I wanted to thank both Christian and Silas for making me feel very special throughout the years.
At Allure Spa, there are 24 women who make up our team. More than half of our staff are mothers too. Irida, Viola, Carmel, and Savi are women like me, who came from other countries and have built their foundation here in the U.S. They too have made tremendous sacrifices for their families over the years. I am inspired by all the mothers at Allure Spa and their strengths as they fit in many daily tasks and responsibilities all while maintaining a working career. I am proud to work along side these inspiring and graceful women each day!
One of the most remarkable things that I have reflected on since celebrating 20 years are the generations that have come into Allure Spa. Over the years I have witnessed the young mothers coming into Allure as clients, who's children have now grown up to be teenagers and young adults and became clients of Allure as well. I am very thankful for clients who have made Allure Spa a comfortable place for their families to come!
From The Allure Spa Family to yours, we wish you a very blessed Mother's Day!
God Bless,
Sandra Ishmael
