Help Us Help the Rivers

in the Great Give, May 5 - 6

Double your donation! If we raise $5,000 in the Great Give, the Board of Directors and other key supporters of the West & Rhode Riverkeeper will match that amount dollar for dollar.

And we could win the "Go Big" award -- an additional $1,000 as the nonprofit that that has the largest percentage increase in total dollars raised over last year's number.

Here's what we need you to do:

1. Between 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, and 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, log onto our page on the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County's GREAT GIVE web site and make a secure online donation.

It's easy! Just click here. Or copy and past this link in your web browser:

http://greatgiveaac.org//#npo/west-rhode-riverkeeper-inc

2. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter @westrhode for Great Give updates and to help build the buzz.

3. Spread the word! Forward this email to your family, friends and neighbors along with a personal note as to why you believe in our work, and why they should give during the Great Give on May 5-6.

As an added incentive, four lucky donors will receive tickets for two to this Saturday's "Muddy Bottom Barbecue" at Hartge Yacht Harbor to celebrate the 2nd annual Ride for the Rivers.

Thanks for your support!

Honeydipper is under weigh!

The West & Rhode Riverkeeper launched the pumpout boat,
Honeydipper, on April 25.

Equipped with a 500-gallon tank, the boat will be available to empty sewage from the holding tanks of recreational boats in the local waterways throughout the boating season. Every year,
Honeydipperunder the aegis of Capt. Mike DeRogatis, safely transports and disposes about 15,000 gallons of raw sewage.

Thanks to a grant from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, the service is available for free. A donation of $5 will help the West & Rhode Riverkeeper in the mission of making the rivers fishable and swimmable. Members of the West & Rhode Riverkeeper at the $50 level can get an unlimited number of pumpouts for free.

The boat will run Saturday through Monday8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through April and May. Starting May 29, the boat will be available Friday through Monday8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

To hail Capt. Mike, hail the Honeydipper on VHF channel 71 or call 410-940-3754

Bring Safe Trails to Shady Side

More and more people are turning to walking, running and cycling as an enjoyable and economical way to keep fit. However, the roads in our community do not safely accommodate these activities - and they are hazardous for drivers as well.

A group of local Shady Side residents is working with Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks to bring "green trails" along Anne Arundel County-owned property. The first proposed trail would be along parts of Idlewilde Road and Snug Harbor Road.

The County is looking for a show of support to make this happen. Please support bringing safe trails to Shady Side by emailing shadysidetrails@gmail.com with "I SUPPORT SHADY SIDE TRAILS."

Please forward this to your family, friends and neighbors!
