Up And Down The Scale

The Santa Rosa Symphony announced the appointment of Heather Balitzkat as director of development. A native of Toronto, Balitzkat served most recently as director of development and marketing at the Springfield Foundation in Ohio.  
 
The San Francisco Conservatory of Music announced the appointment of Grammy-winning musician and conductor Eric Dudley as music director of the SFCM Orchestra for the 2016-17 academic year. After tenures as assistant conductor for both the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the Princeton Symphony, he also recently appeared as principal conductor for the 2015 Bendigo Festival of Exploratory Music in Australia. 
 
 
 
The Santa Barbara Symphony celebrates music director Nir Kabaretti's ten years with the orchestra with a celebratory program of works by Wagner, Hummel, and Brahms on March 12 and 13. Winner of the 1993 Forum Junger Kunstler Conducting Competition in Vienna, he was named music director of the Southwest Florida Symphony in 2014.




The San Francisco Symphony announced the appointment of Christian Reif as resident conductor and Wattis Foundation music director of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, beginning September 2016. German conductor Reif made his debut with the San Francisco Symphony in September. He is completing his second season as the conducting fellow with the New World Symphony. He replaces Donato Cabrera who held the position for seven years. 

Scott Yoo, Festival Mozaic music director, is to be the new artistic director of the Mexico City Philharmonic.
 
 
Music Notes

The Ojai Music Festival has announced its future music directors: Vijay Iyer (June 8-11, 2017), Esa-Pekka Salonen (June 7-10, 2018), soprano/conductor Barbara Hannigan (June 6-9, 2019), violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja (June 11-14, 2020), and pianist Mitsuko Uchida in (June 10-13, 2021).
 
In January, the Orange County Youth Symphony and the Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra performed at Walt Disney Concert Hall in a concert that reflected on World War I. The program was conducted by OC Youth Symphony Daniel Alfred Wachs and Yuga Cohler from the YMF Debut Orchestra. 
 
The 52-year old  San Luis Obispo Youth Symphony,  will embark on a summer tour of Alaska in June to collaborate with students from Anchorage and Kenai.

Registration has opened for the League of American Orchestras' Annual Conference to be held June 9-11, 2016 in Baltimore, hosted by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Read More. 

The Essentials of Orchestra Management, the League of American Orchestras' professional development seminar, will be held at USC again this year from July 12 to 21. Presented by the League in association with USC's Arts Leadership Program, Essentials is an intensive ten-day boot camp in which top leaders of the orchestra field teach aspiring and early-career orchestra administrators all aspects of orchestra management. Essentials is open to anyone with fewer than three years of performing-arts management experience, including graduate students, musicians, and those from outside the orchestra field. Applications are due March 24, 2016. Visit the League's website for more information. Essentials is sponsored by the Association of California Symphony Orchestras.
