It All Begins in 3 Weeks...

Conference is almost here! Come join the premiere networking event in the state for classical music professionals. This is your chance to become a part of it and to soak in all sorts of knowledge from our panelists and experts.

But all work and no play makes for an exhausting experience, so be sure to take part in our fun-filled evening events as well. Tickets are still available for the Saturday night performance by the National Youth Orchestra, led by David Robertson and featuring world-renown violinist Gil Shaham. We also have tickets for Sunday's afternoon performance by pianoSonoma. Contact Garrett at office@acso.org to get your name on the guest lists -- both concerts are free for delegates!

The deadline to register online is July 25th, so be sure to go to www.acso.org/conference today!

Summer ACSO
News is Here!

We are pleased to release  the latest edition of ACSO News! With Conference quickly approaching, we are releasing this issue in digital format only. But don't be fooled -- all of the great information you expect to find is still there!

ACTION ALERT

On July 9, the U.S. House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee approved its FY 2015 spending bill and made a 5% cut, or $8 million, to the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). A 5% cut would threaten the ability to support the arts in all communities and would set back federal support to the level last seen in 2007.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic has named the

Hollywood Bowl Main Gate in honor of Los Angeles County

The North State Symphony has announced the four finalists in its music director search. They are Christian Baldini, Peter Jaffe, Scott Seaton, and Brian Stone. Each candidate will conduct a full concert on the Symphony's 2014-15 season, and the winner will take over for the 2015-16 season.

Sonoma State University, home of the Green Music Center and several events of ACSO's 46th Annual Conference, announced the grand opening of Schroeder Hall, a 250-seat recital hall that will present concerts and music classes, including recitals on its 1,248-pipe Brombaugh Opus 9 organ. The new hall is named after the piano-playing Peanuts character created by Charles Schulz, whose widow Jean is an active philanthropist in the area.

Errata

In the last Semiquavers we erroneously stated that Henrik Jul Hansen of the Merced Symphony was taking a "lengthy leave of absence" from the Symphony. Instead, Mr. Hansen resigned for personal reasons.
