Advocacy at Work: Charitable Giving

Nina Ozlu Tunceli, executive director of the Arts Action Fund, has the following message on the heals of her meetings on Capitol Hill for the National Fly-In Day to Protect Charitable Giving: "Congress heard our message loud and clear to maintain existing incentives for charitable giving.  For each Congressional office visited, I was able to hand-deliver the petition of 5,000+ signatures from grassroots constituents that we've been collecting all week long.  We will deliver another round of signatures by December 12th, so you still have time to sign the petition or get your friends and family to do so."

Twenty-five members of the American Youth Symphony will be performing at Children's Hospital Los Angeles on December 13th. Small performances will be held in lounges, playrooms, and waiting rooms, while a full performance of Peter and the Wolf will happen in one of the large conference rooms.

Almost 5,000 children from 57 local schools had fun with rhythm at the Oakland East Bay Symphony's free Young People's Concerts on October 22 & 23 at Oakland Technical High School and on October 24 at Castlemont High School. These free concerts introduce kids to live orchestral music in a familiar setting. It is also an opportunity to teach them what to expect when attending a concert, how to behave at a concert, what to do when the music seems to end but the conductor does not lower his arms and turn around (don't clap!), and more.
