Would you like to see Science with a
Nano twist?

ScienceWorks

Friday, February 10th, from 7:00 to 9:00pm

Join your fellow OLLI members and guests at this year's fundraiser at ScienceWorks. Two science shows on "Got NANO?" - one at 7:30pm, and one at 8:15pm, will be given by Shannon Troy, a nationally recognized science presenter.

You are probably asking yourself, "What is a NANO?" Explore the extremely tiny ("nano" is a billionth of something) and extraordinary world of nano in this year's ScienceLife! Theater show. How do materials behave differently on the nanoscale than on the macroscale? Find out for yourself in this high energy, highly entertaining presentation. By participating in outrageous experiments like the "bed of nails" and "magic sand", you will discover the secret science of nano. At the end of each show, everyone will get a NANO!

In addition to the two shows, participants will enjoy wine and hors d'oeuvres while mingling with other OLLI members. Tickets can be purchased at the OLLI Ashland office or by calling 552-6048 and purchasing your tickets over the phone with a credit card. So...come and enjoy a fun evening while you are helping to support OLLI into the future.

$100,000 Awards

Do you know someone who has worked hard to improve the lives of our community members? Could they use $100,000 toward their project? The Encore Organization is holding a contest for those adults 60+ who are helping to change the world. Take a look at their website: www.encore.org/prize to see if you might know of anyone who might qualify.

Did You Receive the SOU Student Body Card?

For those OLLI members who submitted a Senior Audit Form to the office this month, please note that you will be mailed a student ID card - IF it is the first time you have signed up. What does the SOU Student ID card look like? The "SOU OneCard" looks like a credit card; however it is NOT a credit card. (It could be activated to become a debit card for those students at SOU who need financial aid refunds to a bank account.) Please note that OLLI students do NOT have to "activate" the card since senior auditors pay $0.00 in tuition to SOU. If you have taken other one-credit courses at OLLI and have already received an ID card, it will be valid for each term that you are enrolled. You will not receive a new ID card each term. If you have any questions at all about the OLLI at SOU One-Credit Program, the Senior Audit form, or the SOU student ID card, please contact Pam Roessler at (541) 552-7004 or RoesslerP@sou.edu.

Here's what's playing:

In William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," imperiled lovers Hermia and Lysander flee to the forest of Athens, pursued by Hermia's jilted fiancé Demetrius and his pining ex-girlfriend Helena. Hijinks ensue when the four cross paths with feuding fairy royalty, a mischievous sprite named Puck, and a troupe of overmatched amateur thespians, (mis)led by a vainglorious ass named Bottom. Directed by SOU professor David McCandless.

Performances in the Center Stage Theatre are at 8 p.m. on Thursday-Saturday, March 1-3 and March 8-10 and at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 10 and Sunday, March 11.

For the First Nations of the Pacific Northwest, winter is the time for stories. Brent Florendo's highly interactive play, "Raccoon Earns His Stripes," brings to the stage the ancient folklore of the Wasco tribe of the Columbia River Basin and Cascade mountains as told to him by his mother, Alice. Raccoon finds that everything in his world is alive and its inhabitants help him learn about their inherent interdependence with humor, song and dance. Florendo is SOU coordinator of Native American Studies. Directed by SOU professor Chris Sackett.

Performances in the Center Square Theatre are at 7 p.m. on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 24-25, March 2-3 and March 9-10, and at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, March 3 and March 10, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 4 and March 11.
