ACM News

Happy Halloween! ACM kicked off a busy October with our Fall board meeting, which was held October 7-8, to begin the new strategic planning process. During the meeting, we were happy to meet with our national partners, including AAM, ASTC, the National Park Service, KaBOOM!, as well as newly-confirmed IMLS Director Dr.Kit Matthew.

ACM Executive Director Laura Huerta-Migus attended the Hands On! Conference held October 13-16 in Amsterdam, and was happy to be present for the Children in Museums Award presentation. Congratulations to ACM members Boston Children's Museum and ZOOM Kindermuseum for receiving this important international honor.

In InterActivity news, registration for InterActivity 2016: Collective Impact, May 4-7, launches next week! Watch for the email announcement.

Put your organization's ad in the hands of every InterActivity attendee. Increase awareness for your expertise, product, or exhibit each time they look up information on sessions, plenary speakers, and evening events before, during, and after the conference. The Preliminary Program comes out in January 2016 and is an online only publication. The deadline to place an ad in the Preliminary Program is November 13, 2015.

We have started work on the second stage of The Learning Value of Children's Museums: Building a Practicing Research Network for the Children's Museum Field. The network has met twice and identified six topic areas based on their current work. The first Special Interest Group (SIG) consisting of five network museums has been formed and is working on the topic area, Learning Frameworks, with the research team at University of Washington. We are looking forward to sharing more information on this exciting work!

Look for the new issue of Hand to Hand, centered on the the topic of Fundraising, in your mailbox! The forthcoming issue of Hand to Hand will focus on the topic of amenities and we would like your help in understanding the topic a bit further. Please take a few minutes to respond to the following survey.

As a follow up to the September 29 webinar on how much early social skills matter, we have scheduled Idea Exchange: Nurturing Social Skills Development in Children's Museums on Tuesday, November 3, 2:00- 3:00 p.m. EST. RSVP to Victoria Garvin, Senior Director, Professional Development.

Congratulations to our members, Children's Discovery Museum of the Desert, Utica Children's Museum, Great Explorations Children's Museum, and Amazement Square, as well as Museum of Science & History, for joining Museums for All in the month of October! Please make sure to follow Museum's for All's new Twitter account, @MuseumsForAll!

As always, please contact ACM if you need assistance. We are here to help!
