Laura Huerta Migus on Education Talk Radio
| On August 19, ACM Executive Director, Laura Huerta Migus,

was a guest on Education Talk Radio, an online radio program for K-12 educators and administrators. Host Larry Jacobs invited Laura on the program to talk about the role children's museums play in school readiness. In addition, she was also able to share information about the history of children's museums, the important role children's museums play in education, and much more.

ACM welcomes Maria Sulima as the new Membership Manager. Maria comes to ACM from NAFSA: Association of International Educators where she assisted NAFSA's 10,000 members and worked closely with member volunteers. As ACM's Membership Manager, Maria will be the main contact for renewing and establishing memberships, technical assistance with reports and other membership data, as well as general membership questions. Give her a call at 703.224.3100 x101.
Dana Weinstein joined ACM as the new Development and Initiatives Manager. She most recently worked at the American Architectural Foundation where she was responsible for managing development and fundraising efforts. InterActivity 2015: Bringing the World to Children and Families
|
Thank you to everyone who submitted a session proposal for InterActivity 2015!
ACM received 108 proposals that came from and included presenters from around the globe. Proposals are now being reviewed by our 2015 Program Committee members, representing museum professionals from children's museums and science centers of various sizes as well as businesses serving the children's museum field. The Program Committee will meet at the end of September to determine which sessions will be accepted. ACM will announce the accepted sessions at the end of October.
Please join all of us at ACM in thanking the 2015 Program Committee members for their time and ongoing commitment to the field. We look forward with you to an inspiring, inclusive, and rewarding program for InterActivity 2015. Save the date! May 13-15, 2015.

Children's Museum of the Treasure Coast
|
Healthy eating has never been this fun! The Children's Museum of the Treasure Coast is teaching its visitors about good nutrition and physical activity in an interactive exhibit that features giant vegetable structures on which kids can climb. It also has a pizza garden that grows vegetables, such as eggplant, onions, and tomatoes. Kids have even been able to harvest the veggies to make delicious and nutritious treats of their own! Let's Move! Museums and Gardens is an initiative that empowers museums to educate families about living healthy lifestyles. Nearly 150 children's museums participate in the initiative. Visit the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services' website for more information on how your museum can get involved.

The U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is now accepting nominations for the 2015 National Medal for Museum and Library Service. This prestigious honor is bestowed upon U.S. institutions for outstanding service to their communities. Recent children's museum winners include the Boston Children's Museum, EdVenture Children's Museum, Long Island Children's Museum, Madison Children's Museum, and The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. Nominations are due October 15.

February 15: Applications Due for 2015 Children in Museums Award
|
The European Museum Academy and Hands On! International welcomes applications for the 2015 Children in Museums Award. The award jury will select 10 finalists based on the creative use of exhibits and programs with an innovative approach. Children's museums, children and youth departments in museums, and science museums may apply.
- Entry fee: 250 Euros
- For entry requirements and instructions, download the Application Form.
Completed applications include three copies of a CD with entry information and supplementary materials.

Rolling Application Deadline: Host The Power of Children Exhibit
|
The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) On the Road is accepting applications to host its newest traveling exhibition, The Power of Children: Making a Difference.
Organized by The Children's Museum of Indianapolis in partnership with Mid-American Arts Alliance, the exhibition shares the extraordinary stories of Anne Frank, Ruby Bridges, and Ryan White--three children whose lives teach visitors about overcoming obstacles to make a positive difference in the world.
The Power of Children: Making a Difference will tour from April 2015 through March 2020. To submit an application to host the exhibition:
- Review the exhibit details, fact sheet, and exhibit schedule.
- Confirm the date you want is available.
- Download and complete the Exhibition Hosting and Public Programming Grant application.
Priority will be given to new venues, particularly those in Alaska, District of Columbia, Hawaii, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Vermont, and West Virginia. Questions? Contact Mid-America Arts Alliance, 816.421.1388.

takes its stations off the air for one day and encourages children to go outdoors and play. Show how your children's museum plays on Worldwide Day of Play--Saturday, September 20! - Register for Worldwide Day of Play 2014.
