ACM Receives Grant for Summer InternshipIntern
ACM is pleased to announce receipt of a $2,750 grant from the ExxonMobil Foundation for an intern through the ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program.

ACM welcomes Odette Yoder, a senior at James Madison University who will be graduating in December with a bachelor's in Media Arts and Design. Odette will be working on Web content management from June 3 to July 26th.

2013 Promising Practice Award CeremonyPPA
MetLife Foundation and ACM recognized the 2013 Promising Practice Award winners in a ceremony at InterActivity in Pittsburgh. Each of the museums received a $10,000 grant to continue their practices toward creating global citizens.

ACM receives calls from members that often include this question: "I'd really like to talk with a colleague who has experience solving this issue; do you know who that might be?" We do, and refer members to members, effectively facilitating the exchange of professional knowledge. To expand this knowledge network, we invite you to join the newly launched Ask a Colleague program. Let ACM know the areas of museum practice in which you have knowledge and we will direct peers and their questions your way.

As part of its Research Agenda Project, ACM and the Museology Graduate Program at the University of Washington will conduct a national symposium, The Learning Value of Children's Museums, that will actively engage participants in the shaping of a research agenda for the children's museum field.

WHERE: Arlington, VA

REGISTRATION: Will be by application. Announcement and application form will be sent the week of June 3rd.

The Research Agenda Project is supported by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Let's Move! Museum Spotlight: Children's Museum TucsonLetsMove

Children's Museum Tucson (AZ) is getting fit, and everyone's invited to join in the fun! On Saturday, April 13th, the Museum hosted more than 2,500 children and families for Let's Get Fit, an all-day health and wellness fair. Children's Museum Tucson partnered with more than 20 guest organizations to provide children with hands-on demonstrations and activities, while parents learned about local health resources available in the community.

Boston Children's Museum Receives National Medal for Museum and Library ServiceBCM
NationalMetalBCM Earlier this month, First Lady Michelle Obama joined Susan Hildreth, director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services in presenting the 2013 National Medal to Boston Children's Museum and nine other museums and libraries. The ceremony took place in the White House East Room and highlighted the ways museums and libraries have positively impacted their communities. ACM Executive Director Janet Rice Elman attended the ceremony to celebrate Boston Children's Museum on this highest of honors.

July 1: Museum Assessment Program Application DeadlineMAP 

The Museum Assessment Program (MAP) is an Institute of Museum and Library Services-funded grant program administered by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) and available to small and mid-sized museums of all types. It provides more than $4,000 worth of services and resources -- including a on-site review by an experienced peer reviewer. Choose one of three assessment types: Organizational, Community Engagement or Collections Stewardship. Apply by July 1.

Registration is open for the November 9-16, 2013 Reggio Emilia Study Group opportunity for teams from children's museum. Program highlights include: Reggio
  • Presentations by early childhood specialists and educators, as well as studio teachers, on the aims and principles of the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy
  • Visits to the infant-toddler centers and preschools  
  • Tour of Loris Malaguzzi International Center and the Documentation and Educational Research Center
  • Facilitated reflection daily
