ACM Receives Grant to Advance Accessibility
ACM has received a $18,000 grant from CVS Caremark Charitble Trust for its Advancing Accessibility in Children's Museum project. The project will include a survey to identify best practices when serving with visitors with special needs, a professional development Webinar, a session at InterActivity and an issue of Hand to Hand. Learn more.

Advocacy UpdatesSequester

On April 10, the U.S. President released his FY 2014 Budget Request to U.S. Congress. The budget includes $225,812,538, an increase of 2.7 percent from FY 2013 enacted, for the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The Administration also proposed major changes to the way the federal government funds STEM education activities. Learn more, including how to advocate all year.   

 

Do you have a pending IMLS grant proposal? The agency's final FY 2013 budget reduced the funds available in every grant category. See the details on the IMLS Web site.  

 

Coming to InterActivity 2013? IMLS staff will be available to meet for individual appointments with attendees. Sign up onsite at the ACM InterActivity Registration Desk located in the Grand Ballroom Foyer of the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown. Appointments will be in 15-minute blocks between 12:00-2:00 p.m. on May 1st.

Let's Move! Museum Spotlight: HealthWorks! Kids' MuseumLetsMove
HealthWorksKids Calling all adventure-seekers! This past month, HealthWorks! Kids' Museum (South Bend, IN) launched its new Passport to Play! Program. Celebrating its recent Good to Grow! Museum designation, HealthWorks! partnered with the South Bend Parks & Recreation Department, the Reducing Obesity Coalition of St. Joseph County and the Center for the Homeless to develop a summer-long series of free health and wellness activities for families in the South Bend area. Study Group  to Reggio EmiliaReggioEmilia  
Registration is now open for the November 9-16, 2013 Reggio Emilia Study Group opportunity for teams from children's museum. Program highlights include: Reggio
  • Presentations by early childhood specialists and educators, as well as studio teachers, on the aims and principles of the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy
  • Visits to the infant-toddler centers and preschools  
  • Tour of Loris Malaguzzi International Center and the Documentation and Educational Research Center
  • Facilitated reflection daily  
Core program cost is $2,720 per person/shared double room or $2,980 per person/single room. Airfare and ground transportation not included. Download the informational flyer
