Re-writing her-story: A woman is responsible for the way yoga is practiced the west!

You won't want to miss this interview - In her new book, 'Goddess Pose,' Michelle Goldberg traces the Western practice of yoga to a Russian woman named Indra Devi. Goldberg says that many of the poses in modern yoga can't be traced beyond 150 years ago. Listen to this interview from Fresh Air!

I am so happy that as a yoga teacher I can continue to learn, grow, explore and share continuously!

Last weeks training with Shiva Rea was both fun, deep & refreshing. And that's exactly what we at Yoga Moves hope to offer you as you move through your journey as a teacher, leader & explorer. The sun is OUT and we are also excited that we have a few really special trainings and teachers courses coming up this summer and fall.
We are looking forward to Brian Coopers workshop - open to everyone - on Friday 12 June (in the evening). If you love Ashtanga or are considering taking his training starting next fall, make sure you sign up!
Or deepen your skills with Sandra Carson's Intro to Yoga therapy workshops on 1 & 29 July...a must for all yoga teachers to have a working knowledge of the  possible applications of yoga to healing dis-ease.

What to do when your student gets pregnant?
If you're confused - imagine your student?
Don't be naive around pregnancy and yoga. Inform yourself! We have this cool workshop available 2 times this summer (15 Aug & 13 Sept)! No excuse not too join! And it's super cool to be able to support women from the start to the finish-line when it comes to taking care of her and her baby!

Have you seen our page where we inform students what the basic things they need to consider are when they become pregnant?  Check it out!

I have been thinking a lot lately @ how I want to live..

One thing that is for sure: after living inside structures that don't serve me anymore, I want to tear down the things that keep me stuck. What I found so inspirational from Shiva's training last week was that she reminded me of my moving essence! She asked us to write down a quick diary of significant experiences in our whole life where movement practices were a part...like when you first discovered dancing, or sports, or swimming or yoga. But also the times - for what ever reason - your movement practice "went underground". Like when I stopped dancing for years...what keeps us from doing things that we love? I enjoyed reclaiming movements I do mostly in private, ways of exploring the body that is less square, more feminine and sensual...Shiva has dared to reclaim & teach these natural moves that heal and even free ourselves from the structures that bind: movements that slither, glide, roll, ungulate, and wiggle, and has brought them back into my movement vocabulary and life. You want to experience some of this? Come see myself, Simon, Anoushe or Juni in one of our classes soon! We were all there :-)

With love,

Hilary
