I asked Kate, of Dragonfly Fibers, to tell us about her business.
"Here at Dragonfly Fibers, we try to provide the yummiest yarns and spinning fibers in rich, complex, and, occasionally, eye-searing colorways. We kettle-dye a range of semi-solid and variegated colorways and lately, we've been developing a range of nearly solid colors for knitting the incredible array of stitch-oriented patterns available.
We have a great time naming our colors, often from song lyrics but just as easily names just pop in my head! I really love the effect of the water on color placement on the yarn. I am also fascinated with using contrasting colors together on a skein; combining contrasting colors does not always make mud!
The business started after I learned to spin and dye. My husband Jack, after noting the piles of yarn all over the house, suggested I begin selling my handspun. I started on ebay, then graduated to etsy.
I dye most of the yarns and fibers, in addition to running the business (and my
family!) The amazing Team Dragonfly is comprised of five good friends who work with me part-time. We have continued to grow in a slow, fairly organic manner; one very big development this past year has been a move to a studio nearby. I found it terrifying to take this step but I love being able to dye yarn regardless of weather. A big improvement over dyeing in the rain and snow on my back deck!"
Their colors are amazing.
