VOICE YOUR OPPOSITION TODAY!
Senate Budget Amendments To Reopen Farm Bill & Cut Crop Insurance

Dear Big "I" Member:

As Congress debates the FY 2016 Budget, it is important to call your Senators and urge them to oppose all amendments that negatively impact participation within the Federal Crop Insurance Program and the private sector delivery system.

IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED:

Please call BOTH Nebraska Senators TODAY and urge them to vote against the Crop Insurance amendments listed below.   Direct calls are more effective than e-mails or faxes in this situation.  Feel free to send this Action Alert to your co-workers and clients, and ask them to call to express their opposition to these amendments!

Sen. Deb Fischer                      (202) 224-6551
Sen. Ben Sasse                        (202) 224-4224

Talking Points:

Please vote "NO" on the following crop insurance amendments that reopen the Farm Bill and cut the crop insurance program, which is a vital program for farmers and ranchers.

  • Vote no on Shaheen amendment #696 capping crop insurance premium support at $50,000.
  • Vote no on Flake amendment #671 eliminating premium support on policies with a Harvest Price Option.
  • Vote no on Flake amendment #666 imposing a $750,000 AGI means test on crop insurance.

Thank You!

Background

Farmers and ranchers, lenders, input suppliers and processors, insurance and reinsurance organizations agree that crop insurance is the centerpiece of agricultural risk management.  They also oppose amendments that would make crop insurance inaccessible and unaffordable.  Amendments to impose means testing, cap or eliminate premium support by size or crop, and cut private sector delivery all have the unintended consequence of creating barriers to participation and increasing the cost of crop insurance to all farmers.
