SignOn Once
Identity Management Solution for the Insurance Industry

SignOn Once is a collaborative industry effort to create a safe and standard way to secure ID/password authentication.  This solution is not specific to any individual carrier or vendor, the aim is to get as many parties participating so that independent agents reap the benefits of one potential single ID and password set.

In this June 2014 ACT article, the authors Teresa Addy and Jim Rogers share more background on SignOn Once; as an industry standard, the benefits, and guidance for carrier and vendor participation.

How To Sell Cyber Liability

Free CE In August Focuses On Understanding Exposures
(3 CEUs pending approval)

As the cyber liability market continues to heat up with competition, independent insurance agents need to make sure they're keeping pace. Barring a few obvious exceptions, prices are headed south - and that means now is the time for independent agents to get into the game.

According to industry experts, most agents should offer cyber liability to every client, because almost all have exposure.  Read more

And don't miss IIAN's Free CE class on cyber liability exposures, regulatory requirements, loss prevention techniques, and more, with John Immordino, vice president of professional liability

Could Your Agency Weather A Data Breach?

IIAN Now Offers Exceptional Cyber Liability Program Specifically Designed For Independent Agents

Would you be surprised to know that 80 percent of businesses that experience a data breach do not recover?

Cyber attacks have increased significantly since 2009. Data breaches are extremely common among smaller businesses. Data held by small businesses is low hanging fruit. Hackers know these enterprises lack the security resources of their larger counterparts.

So, how do you know if you need a cyber liability product? Here is the simplest answer:  when it comes to data, if you collect it, you own it. If you maintain two or more pieces of private information or process credit cards, you need protection.

Before you decide you do not need or cannot afford a policy, make sure you can afford recovering from a data breach. Responding to a data breach is not only costly - an estimated $200,000 - it's complex. State and federal regulations dictate proper handling of private information. If this information is breached, agents must navigate the laws in 46 different states mandating how victims must be notified. Experts from multiple disciplines; forensics investigators, legal counsel and public relations firms, may be needed to coordinate a response to even the smallest incident. In some instances the cost of a forensics investigator alone can reach up to $340,000.

So, can your agency afford not to have cyber liability coverage?

IIAN is proud to offer the most comprehensive program on the market at a negotiated rate that cannot be found elsewhere. Find out more and check out great rates.

IIAN Marketing Rep Phil Harr Retires
IIAN's Marketing Representative, Phil Harr, CPCU, CLU, ChFC, will retire on July 1, 2014, announced IIAN CEO Carol McClelland, CAE.  "During his nearly three years of service to IIAN, Phil has generously shared his extensive knowledge of agency technology, management, the industry and insurance with our members and prospects," commented McClelland.  "We will miss Phil's personal wisdom and sense of humor - but we know he is looking forward to spending a lot of time with his adult children and two granddaughters."

IIAN, Trusted Choice®, and First Comp Team Up For Summer Board Meeting & College World Series
IIAN's Board of Directors meets each summer to update the association's strategic plan and determine priorities for the next several years.  This year's planning meeting was hosted by FirstComp at their corporate offices in downtown Omaha, on Friday, June 13, opening day of the 2014 College World Series.  FirstComp is an IIAN Diamond-Level Partner, and Marketing Director Trent Cooksley serves on the IIAN Board.  Following the all-day meeting, IIAN officers and directors joined FirstComp's agents from across the country for a reception at Sullivan's.
The Board passed bylaws changes to reduce the number of directors from 20 to 11 over the next two years, part of a year-long re-assessment of IIAN's governance structure and member benefits.  "Association excellence is one of IIAN's long range goals, and we believe a smaller, competency-based Board will allow IIAN to respond more quickly to meet member needs," commented  IIAN President Dee Sykora, AAI, AU, CPIW.
Directors also focused on four strategic priorities to help member agencies succeed in the marketplace:
  • Increase consumer awareness of the value of independent insurance agents through promotion of the Trusted Choice® brand and digital marketing
  • Increase effectiveness of Big "I" legislative advocacy, member involvement, and grassroots support
  • Increase engagement and involvement opportunities for all members
  • Support the IIAN Foundation's goals to become self-supporting and recruit qualified talent into the independent agency system

Then on Saturday, June 14, IIAN and Trusted Choice® co-hosted FirstComp's annual Dockerville College World Series party featuring barbeque, live music, prizes, and flat screen TV coverage of Saturday's games - with the help of the IIA of Omaha young agents.
