 | | 2013 Fair Chance Graduates |
On March 14th, more than 100 supporters, family, friends, and alumni partners came together at Bank of America's beautiful Terrace Room, to celebrate nine remarkable youth-serving organizations.
Working alongside Fair Chance throughout the past year, each of our amazing graduating partners and their leaders dedicated hundreds of hours to strengthen and improve their organization. These inspiring nonprofits are now able to serve a combined
3,000 children and youth.
Our graduation c eremony is that spectacular moment each year where we can highlight our partners' passion, dedication, and love for the youth that they serve. It was also an opportunity to showcase their steadfast determination in building up their organizations so they are more sustainable, far reaching, and fulfilling their missions.
As Suzy Hirsch, Executive Director of Chess Challenge in DC shared, "With the extraordinary help of Fair Chance... we have either examined, reviewed, updated, tightened, or refined every major organizational function of Chess Challenge"
As Graduation ends one year of extraordinary work, we continue forward. We took a moment during the ceremony to officially welcome our ten new partners as they launch into their Fair Chance year.

Honoring Maria T. Nagorski's Steadfast Leadership for the Past Five Years
|
Fair Chance took a moment to recognize our esteemed leader Maria T. Nagorski as she prepares to transition from her role as Executive Director. At graduation, Maria was presented our 2013 Community Champion Award by Fair Chance Founder and Board Member, Amanda Marshall, and Fair Chance Alumni ('06) and Executive Director of Mentoring Today, Penelope Spain.
For five years, Maria has led Fair Chance into unprecedented success. Under Maria, we have grown from working with 28 organizations and no real organized alumni network to working with 75 organizations and a powerful and active alumni network.
As Maria moves on to the next phase of her life and career she will continue her personal mission to improve the lives of children and youth in need. Maria noted, "When I found Fair Chance, I knew it was an opportunity to be a part of something great. And I am so grateful to have played my role in building this organization." We are the ones grateful for Maria's dedication to our mission, leadership of our Board and staff, and steadfast commitment to our partners and the children and youth we all look to serve.
"There is no better advocate for children living in high poverty communities than Maria"
