Holy Hide and Seek! It's a game that Adam and Eve invented in order to attempt to avoid God seeing them after they had done something they knew was completely wrong. Why else would they have hid in the cool breezes of the garden that evening, as if they could escape the presence of the One who called creation into being?
Ever played that game? I remember as a child trying to do so, thinking that God couldn't see everyone and everything at once so, at some points along the way, I could escape being noticed for my wrongdoings. I did things during my youth that I tried to cover up. I've made mistakes throughout my life that I hoped no one would discover. I've said things that I prayed no one would ever hear. I am Adam. I am Eve.
We clearly know the difference between right and wrong day in and day out. Yet day in and day out we do what's wrong and not what's right. Usually those things we do are not really big or noticeable but we hope to get away with them. It reminds of Paul's words that go something like this: "The good that I should I don't. The evil I shouldn't, I do!"
Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Thanks be to God that even when we try to hide, fail to follow through, pretend we didn't hear what was said and miss the mark God comes to find us not to punish or banish us; rather God comes to embrace us with the love of Christ and the forgiveness that is ours in him.
Listen, if you do so carefully you'll hear the sound of God coming to you now to bring hope and love and grace. Be still, you'll be amazed!

| Let us pray for:
Gracious and holy God, you come to us even in the midst of our attempts to hide from you and despite what we've done wrong you seek us out to offer forgiveness and hope and promise. Be with us as we live out our lives that we might approach all people as you have approached us, living with them in love, forgiveness and the same wonder we find in your surprising grace and life, especially the life of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.
