PARENT STUDENT HANDBOOK CARDS DUE
Please read the 2014-2015 edition of the Parent Student HandbookAfter you have reviewed the material inside this handbook, please sign the statement and return it to the Attendance Office by Friday, September 19, 2014.  If the card is not received by this deadline, your student may be prevented from attending class.  Click here to download the signature card.
SCHEDULE CHANGE: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 19
A large amount of students are required to leave school early on Friday, September 19 for co-curricular activities. We have adjusted the schedule to minimize the impact student attendance will have on the day. Please Note:  Because school ends so early, there will be no lunch break.   Click here to see the bell schedule.
CHRISTIAN SERVICE INFORMATION
We are now using an online tracking and reporting system for all service hours called x2VOL, which can be accessed through Family Connection in Naviance.  This system will allow us to eliminate our paper forms and centralize the information.  x2VOL will allow your student to enter their service hours online at any time, as well as check for and sign-up for any service opportunities, and print a service hour log that can be used for college applications.  All students will be given a tutorial on the x2VOL system during their religion class.  We appreciate your help and cooperation with this new system.

Should you have any questions about Naviance, please contact Cheryl Dopudja in the Counseling Office.  If you have any questions regarding service hours, please contact Peg Hanley or Margie Diorio
ATHLETIC NEWS
Sweet Ranked by OC Varsity as No. 2 Returning Receiver/Tight End

Senior Kyle Sweet comes in at the No. 2 spot for the top 10 returning receivers and tight ends, according to OC Varsity.  After serving as the Eagles' quarterback his sophomore season, Sweet showed his versatility as a junior quickly establishing himself as a dangerous weapon as a pass catcher. The 6-foot, 190-pound wideout returns as the county's second-leading receiver after hauling in 53 catches for 920 yards and nine touchdowns last year. An All-County second-team selection in 2013, Sweet accounted for more than 50 percent of Santa Margarita's aerial yardage, thanks in large part to two monster games of 200-plus yards receiving. With quarterback KJ Costello entering his second full season as the starting signal caller, look for Sweet to put up eye-popping numbers yet again this fall.

Eagle Football Slated to Stream Back to Back Weeks on Fox Sports West

As a result, Week 0's matchup with Bishop Amat on Friday, August 29 and week 1 against Corona Santiago on Friday, September 5 will both be 7:30 p.m. kickoffs rather than the regular 7 p.m. start. Click Here for the full schedule

CALIFORNIA TELECONNECT FUND

Schools in California currently receive money from the California Teleconnect Fund (CTF) which, for us, results in a 30% reduction in internet service expenses.  The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is in the process of rewriting the CTF funding rules. While many of the changes were expected and may reduce funding, one piece of the proposal is particularly disturbing. It appears that the CPUC is targeting private schools. Their proposed rule would completely eliminate all CTF funding from private schools except for a few schools in severe need.

The proposed rule states that private schools will qualify for CTF only if 40% of the students at the school participate in the Free/Reduced Meal Program, however all public schools would be eligible for CTF funding. The good news is that there appears to be a willingness to work with us on our concerns if we make our voices heard. You can help by logging your complaints with the CPUC here. A few points to note when putting your comments are:

1.            Your comments on this issue should be logged under Proposed Rules 3.2

2.            Be sure to click the Do not support box

3.            Our greatest concern is the lack of equal access to internet service. Public schools get                       funding but we do not.
