LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
|
Dear Parents:
Welcome to the 2014-2015 academic year! With our faculty and staff returning this coming Monday, August 11th and the freshman class on Tuesday the 12th and everyone on the 14th, we can truly say we are off and running! I want to take this opportunity to share a few things with you.
The campus has seen a great deal of activity this summer in the area of improvements. The Borchard Library has undergone a fantastic transformation from a '1987' version into the 21st century. Not only in furniture and layout but with the addition of our new Tech Service Center which will be the place students go if they have problems, questions or concerns with their tablets. Make sure you take a look at the new library next time you are on campus.
All of our parking lots have either been entirely remade or resurfaced, a long overdue project. For those of you whose sons/daughters have a low emissions car, the special parking spots for them have been restored in the lot in front of the B building and remain behind the Eagle Athletic Center. Something you will not see but which was another needed project was the replacement of the twenty-seven-year-old gas line. New window shades have been installed in 'G' building classrooms, safety blinds are being installed in all classrooms and a new floor was installed in our 'Black Box' theatre.
In addition to all of this, students have been coming onto campus since July 22nd, for training on the new tablet PCs. The training has gone very well and I am so thankful for a dedicated group of teachers who have served as the trainers coming in to make sure all our students are ready to use their tablets. Like any new program I am sure we will have some 'bugs' here and there, but we are witnessing a major shift in how we use technology to enhance the educational process. By the way, if your son/daughter has not signed up for the training session, which is when they receive their tablet, they must do so immediately. Please click here for sign-up instructions and dates.
School enrollment has topped the 1,730 mark, which is fantastic and at this point we have a waiting list of students who are interested in attending SMCHS. Our Admissions Department has done a great job in meeting the needs of our transfers and incoming freshman class.
One note of apology; many of you have purchased the student directory which is sold by the boys' soccer program. Unfortunately an ad appeared on the back cover which is not in keeping with the school's mission or message. On those copies not yet sold, the ad was changed but for those who already purchased it, I apologize on behalf of the school and the soccer program. We are taking steps to make sure this does not ever happen again.
As we look to this new school year, we call upon our Lord and His love, Caritas Christi, to fill the hearts and minds of all our students and families. May each of us renew our efforts to be Christ to one another and to live the love that He is to all of us!
Caritas Christi,
Ray Dunne
Principal
