SM WELCOMES JUNIOR EAGLE PEP SQUAD
2014 SMCHS Junior Eagle Pep Squad Summer Camp
2014 SMCHS Junior Eagle Pep Squad Summer Camp

The SMCHS Pep Squad hosted their summer camp for future cheerleaders and songleaders this past week.  While at camp, the 110 participants of the Junior Eagle Program learned cheers, dance routines, and the value of friendship and teamwork.  The Junior Eagles are scheduled to perform at the Varsity Football Game on September 12th, in the Pep Squad Showcase at SM on Nov. 20th and again during the basketball season.  The current SM Pep Squad and coaches were thrilled to work with such young and aspiring talent!
STUDENTS RECEIVE TABLETS AND TRAINING

The One-to-One Tablet PC Program at SMCHS got off to a great start this week as more than 300 SMCHS students were on campus to pick up their Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga Tablet PC and go through their initial training session to prepare for the coming school year. The students were assigned to classrooms where, with the assistance of SMCHS faculty, they spent time watching training videos and practicing with the essential components of the One-to-One Program including Windows 8.1, Microsoft OneNote, the Learning Portal, Microsoft Office and DyKnow. The same training videos remain available to the students via the Learning Portal so they are able to continue their practice and further hone their skills as the school year approaches.

"I think it's cool," said freshman John Pellizzon '18. "I'm excited to not have to carry around so many binders. I already feel prepared for the start of school."

All  students will receive their Tablet PC at one of our distribution/training sessions at the end of the summer. Upcoming training sessions are on July 29, 31, and August 5, 7, and 12. Although students must only attend one session, attendance is mandatory. Click Here to sign up if you have not already done so. These sessions will fill up on a first-come, first-served basis, so sign up early to get the session you want! For more information on the program visit the Ed Tech website.

SARAH DEMILLE 5K MEMORIAL RUN A SUCCESS
On Saturday, July 19, Santa Margarita Catholic High School celebrated the 6th Annual Sarah DeMille 5K Memorial Run. The run is held in memory of Santa Margarita alumna Sarah DeMille '05 who passed away during college in 2006 in an automobile accident. During her time at SMCHS, Sarah was a dedicated four-year cross-country runner. Coaches describe her as having had a special spirit, one that was contagious and showed her dedication and beliefs in hard work and commitment in everything she did. Sarah also left her mark at Applied Medical, the company where she spent two summers working as an intern.

Following Sarah's accident, Applied Medical began a scholarship fund in her memory. The Sarah DeMille Memorial Run was then created to fund the scholarship, which is awarded each year to a Lady Eagle Runner who possesses the same qualities that Sarah did. The sixth annual 5K helped secure more than $20,000 for the scholarship fund.

This year, the trail was filled with more than 350 alumni, students, families and friends. The morning also included a "Future Eagle" Fun Run for those 10 years and younger, a pancake breakfast, local vendors and opportunity prizes all to help raise funds for the scholarship.

Luke Maillard of Phoenix, Arizona who attends Brophy Prep High School took first place in the general run with a time of 17:56. Alexis Wright, 12, of Highland, Utah came in first on the ladies side with a time of 20:27 followed by Santa Margarita rising senior Sheridan Scifres of Coto de Caza who came in as a close second with a time of 21:13. Click here to read more.

Blanc Brothers Named National Girls Swim Coaches of the Year

Swimming and Diving Program Ranked Top in California,

No. 4 Nationally

Congratulations to the Blanc brothers, Ron and Rich, for being selected as the national girls swimming co-coaches of the year by the National High School Coaches Association.

The Eagles girls swimming team won its 15th consecutive Trinity League championship this past school year, and were CIF-Southern Section Division 1 champions.

The NISCA National Dual Meet Team Rankings were just published earlier this week for the 2014 swimming and diving season with Santa Margarita capturing its highest national rankings in school history.  On the boys' side, the Eagles capped their Trinity League championship season as the No. 20 ranked team in the United States. The Santa Margarita Girls Swimming and Diving team topped their CIF Division 1 championship season ranked as the No. 5 team in America, its highest finish in school history.  The team was regarded as the No. 2 team in California and the highest ranked team from Orange County, CA.  No other Orange County school qualified for the Top 25 national rankings. Santa Margarita's showing in the polls also was the highest placing of any private high school in California. The NISCA National Rankings also include a Combined Ranking whereby the Boys and Girls point totals are combined together. The Combined National Rankings have the Eagles as the 4th overall school in the United States and the top swimming and diving program in California.
