A PROM MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL DUNNE
|

Dear Parents,
In anticipation of tonight's prom, we want to emphasize the importance of safety amongst our students. Many parents are under the impression that if their sons and daughters take limos or 'party busses,' all worries are over. I would like to suggest that parents have researched the limo or party bus company, particularly with regards their policy on alcohol/drugs. Sadly, there have been many examples of these companies having little concern for what takes place in their vehicles.
Alcohol and other illegal substances are often brought 'on board' with no consequences from the driver or the company as a whole. The subsequent reaction by some is if that occurs, thank heavens they are being driven by someone who is not drinking. However, therein lies a problem; eventually the students will have to get out of the vehicle and go into the dance and at the end of the night, begin driving their own cars. The 'partying' often takes place in the vehicle after prom because of Breathalyzer tests and other methods we use to ensure that no one comes to prom under the influence. Once our students leave the dance and make their way home or to one of many after parties, the problem reveals itself. If a student has been using alcohol in the hired vehicle or if alcohol is available at an after prom party, they are now vulnerable to the possibility of a serious accident.
I strongly urge you to ensure that your sons and daughters are in a safe environment when they leave your homes for the dance, as well as at any party afterwards. Consult our Parent Guild's safe homes listing on the web or call the parents where a party is scheduled to take place. While nothing is fail-safe, you will know that you made every effort possible to protect our children. Unfortunately, the feeling of invulnerability is prevalent in a teen's life and often overrides good sense. Help them to see that being a good friend is making sure that they are not only safe, but that all of their friends are safe as well. This is one of the greatest gifts they can share with one another; this is truly the gift of Caritas Christi, the love of Christ.
Prom is a momentous time in their high school life, especially for seniors as they finish this chapter of their high school life. As principal, I want all our students to have a wonderful experience, a truly positive memory and it is with that in mind that I have brought this information to your attention. Please help to make sure all our students are safe.
Thank You!
Caritas Christi,
Ray Dunne Principal

CLASS OF 2014 ROCKS THE RUNWAY
|

 | | Mothers Club Fashion Show 2014 |
More than 200 guests attended the Annual Senior Fashion Show in the Moiso Pavilion.
Sixty-five seniors modeled fashions down the runway from retailers including Fossil, Macy's, Cache, The Duchess and the Daisy Shoppe. The event culminated in a parade of colleges with Santa Margarita students modeling college sweatshirts showcasing where they are headed as they continue on their educational journey. Along with a great show, guests also had the opportunity to win prizes through an opportunity drawing, take home opportunity gift baskets, bid on silent auction items and shop for one-of-a-kind merchandise at the event boutique. Funds raised benefit student services at Santa Margarita. Congratulations to the Mothers Club on a great event! Click Here for the full story.

MUN CELEBRATES ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR
|
The Santa Margarita Catholic High School Model United Nations (MUN) program recently celebrated the end of the 2013-2014 season. At MUN conferences, students play the roles of delegates at a simulated meeting of the real UN and tackle tough questions facing the international community. The students try to work with each other to find solutions to these problems. At the conclusion of this academic competition, individual awards are given to delegates that have done a superior job in each committee. This year, the SMCHS MUN program won 582 individual awards including 63 Gavels and a record seven delegation awards. Upon representing Slovenia, Turkmenistan, and Macedonia at an October conference, SMCHS MUN has now represented all 193 members of the United Nations.
