THE INAUGURAL BLUE AND GOLD EVENT

Mark your calendars for an extraordinary event for SM parents, grandparents, faculty, staff and friends! All are welcome on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 5:00pm on campus in the Moiso Family Pavilion. You won't want to miss this new signature fundraising event of the year, benefiting all SM students. The Blue and Gold Committee is already busy making plans for "An Evening Under the Stars." There is still time to become part of the planning committee. Counselor Meet and Greet for Current Freshmen and Freshman Parents
Join the counselors for a "Alpha" Meet and Greet on the 3rd floor of the R Building on Thursday April 10th from 2:30-3:30pm. This will provide an opportunity for freshmen who have been working with our freshman counselors to meet their new counselors, divided up by the alphabet, and learn about the many programs the students can take part in over the next couple of years. Services for Michael Anderson '13
It is with great sadness we inform the Eagle community that Michael Anderson, Class of 2013, passed away last week. Michael was a four-year member of the Boys Track and Field team, where he participated in the pole vault. He was also a member of the Steel Drum band. Michael's brother, Scott Anderson, is a member of the Class of 2010. Michael's service will be held this Saturday, April 12 at 9:00 am at San Francisco Solano. Click Here for more details.

ASB Class Officer Elections and Commissioner Applications
ASB Class Officer Elections are coming up on Wednesday, April 16th. April 16 is a Special Schedule Day 0/6. Current sophomores and juniors will vote for their 2014-2015 ASB Class Officers in their distribution class. Current sophomores will meet in their distribution classes at 7:30 AM and current juniors will meet in their distribution classes at 8 AM.
The 2014-2015 ASB Commissioner applications are available online now and are due by April 16th! Click here to learn more about commissioner positions as well as download and print an application. ASB is looking for spirited and creative students to help plan activities and lead the SM student body.

The annual Lenten Senior Pilgrimage will be held on Holy Thursday, April 17th. Often cited as a favorite senior tradition, the pilgrimage will begin with check in at 7:15 am and ends at the Mission Basilica School in San Juan Capistrano. As you walk from SM to the Mission Basilica approximately 14 miles, you will lift every step to God in the name of a person or cause. Permission Forms to sign up are in Campus Ministry. Incoming Freshman Subject Placement Exams
MATH
Any student that desires to take Algebra 2 their freshmen year must take the Math Placement Test in May. If a student does not take the math placement test that student will be placed in Algebra 1.
Please remember to sign up for the Math Placement Test by April 28th. Click here to sign up now. WORLD LANGUAGES
All language placement exams for incoming freshmen will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at
3:30 p.m. and Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. on the second floor of the Academic Services Center. Students should only attend one of the testing dates. Most exams are completed within 1 hour and should not exceed 1 hour 30 minutes. This is a requirement for Honors Spanish. Honors placement for Chinese, French, Greek and Latin is based on the High School Placement Test scores previously required of all incoming freshmen. NO prior knowledge of Chinese is required to enroll in Chinese 1H. Although there is no placement test for first year, there is summer homework, which is to learn how to pronounce Chinese pinyin (phonetic Chinese). Freshmen with previous, advanced language study may test into higher levels. Please make arrangements with Mr. Gerlach at gerlacht@smhs.org prior to the exam dates in May. NOTE: This exam is only for students who applied after February 25th or who took the High School Placement test at another high school other than SMCHS.

Marian Mass
The Santa Margarita community is invited to the annual Marian Mass is May 1st at 9 am in the Moiso Family Pavilion (gym). Fr. Reynold Furrell is the presider. The Mass will including the crowning of Mary, installation of new ASB officers and a special send off and blessing of our seniors as this will be their last all-school Mass as students. The SMCHS choir will provide music. All students need to be in Mass dress.

SM is off to see the Wizard (of Oz) on Thursday, May 22nd at the Grand Ballroom at the Disneyland Hotel! Prom tickets will go on sale online April 30th. Ticket prices are TBA. ONLINE ticket sales will end at 3:00 PM on May 20th.

IB and AP Exam Schedule and Volunteer Proctor Training

Proctoring an exam is a great way to show your student that you support and respect the efforts they are devoting to their academic studies. To sign up as a volunteer to help proctor the May 2014 exams, Click Here to email Cherry Kiely, the IB Booster Club parent volunteer coordinator, or sign up via Volunteer Spot through the link that was emailed last week. To those who have already signed up, we thank you for your support of our students, teachers and program!
All volunteer proctors for the May 2014 IB and AP exams must complete an annual training. SMCHS proctor training for this year's exams will take place in the Eagle Athletic Center (R Building) 3rd floor banquet room on Tuesday, April 29th at 8:00am for IB and on Tuesday, April 29th at 10:00am for AP. If this time frame does not work with your personal schedule please contact Cindy Cunha (IB) or Erica MacDougall (AP) to make arrangements for an alternate training date/time.

What is a Safe Home? A Safe Home will not allow gatherings or parties in their home without adult supervision. A Safe Home will not serve or allow students under the legal drinking age to consume alcohol in their home or on their property. A Safe Home will not allow the use of illegal drugs in their home or on their property. The PTG (Parent Teacher Guild) encourages all SMCHS families to commit in making their home a Safe Home.
