Santa Margarita Hosts 7th Annual Special Olympics

On Friday, March 8th, Santa Margarita Catholic High School welcomed over 500 special needs athletes to the campus of SMCHS to compete in the 7th Annual Special Olympics, Track and Field. These special needs athletes came from several different southern California school districts including Brea, Anaheim, Garden Grove, and Capistrano Valley with competitors ranging in age from elementary school to adult transitional schools.

Sophomore students were there to greet each and every athlete, as well as serve as ambassadors throughout the day. Students escorted their athlete to the various events and were there to coach and support.

Athletes competed in the 25 meter dash, the 50 meter dash, and the softball toss.  Along with the games, athletes made arts and crafts, had their faces painted, and even had a dance off at the end of the day.
