Dr. Mary Beth Dougherty Set to Retire

Dr. Mary Beth Dougherty, Assistant Principal of Academics, has announced that she will be retiring at the end of June.  Dr. Dougherty has been in her position since SMCHS opened in 1987 and has overseen tremendous academic achievements which have led to the strong academic reputation of the school.  Prior to coming to Santa Margarita, she was at Mater Dei after moving west from Pennsylvania.

Many curricular achievements have come to fruition under her leadership of the Academic Department including the IB and ID programs along with our PLCs (Professional Learning Communities) and the move we have made into blended on-line education and are making into the one to one computing world and many more.

In announcing her retirement to the faculty and staff, Mr. Dunne said:  "One cannot begin to catalog all the wonderful and great things she has done for this school literally from the very beginning." Dunne went on to say, "no one can replace the institutional knowledge and love for SMCHS that all can clearly see exhibited by Mary Beth."

As Dr. Dougherty finishes her distinguished career at SMCHS, we all join in saluting her for the outstanding service she has given to this school. We thank our Lord for blessing this educational community of faith with her presence and we pray that our Lord will continue to bless her with His love and care; that her retirement be filled with many joys and that she will always have a strong sense of accomplishment as she looks back on all she has done for so many during her years in the field of education.

Campus Ministry/Christian Service enters those extra-curricular service hours into the Aeries database. We are in need of any outstanding direct service hours. You may find the Christian Service Hour form by clicking here. And if you are not sure what constitutes direct service please see the Frequently Asked Questions by clicking here. Awards are given to those students who have an excess of 120 extracurricular service hours.

Freshman Christian Service (Caritas Christi Project)

Each freshman Religion class is assigned a class visit to Goodwill Industries in Santa Ana. We'd like to share with you this YouTube video from Goodwill. Some of our freshmen have met Neemiah who came to Goodwill seeking help in gaining skills necessary for employment. He represents, as do the many generous, inspiring individuals at Goodwill, the power of community raising up 'the least of these'. Click Here to view the video.
