Welcome to the Third Edition of Eagle Vision for the 2013-2014 School Year. Eagle Vision is my way of communicating with our local schools, parishes, and prospective students about Admissions events and the latest news from Santa Margarita Catholic High School.

Eagle Pride 8th Grade Visitation Day--Wednesday, November 13

Festivities Begin at 8:45 am and Wrap Up by 12:30 pm

 

 

   
On Wednesday, November 13th, Santa Margarita Catholic High School opens its doors to 8th grade students to see our campus and experience life as an Eagle.  Hear from our current students and take a unique tour of our facilities. 

 

Tour venues include:

  • Eagle Athletic Center and Weight Room
  • Moiso Pavilion (gymnasium)
  • Eagle Aquatics Center
  • Performing Arts Center (Dome)
  • Sacred Heart Chapel
  • Eagle Television Studios
  • Borchard Library

Many local schools are attending 8th Grade Visitation Day, but if your current school is not attending Visitation Day and you would like your student to participate in this event, please call Rhonda Ury at 949-766-6076 to reserve a seat for Eagle Pride Day.

Applications Now Being Accepted for the Freshman Class of 2018
For Freshmen Starting in the 2014-2015 School Year

Santa Margarita Catholic High School is now accepting applications for the Freshman Class of 2018 (starting classes in the Fall of 2014).  If you wish to begin the application process, please begin by completing an online application here.  

Once you submit an online application, we will ask that you send us the following to complete your application:
  • $50 application fee (check payable to SMCHS, please mail to Admissions Office)
  • 7th and 8th Grade Transcripts (please wait until the first grading period of 8th grade is complete before requesting your current school to send us your student's transcripts)
  • Standardized Testing Results (for Public School students, we ask for the detailed STAR testing report that includes bar graphs on the front and back of the report)
  • Immunization Record
  • 3 Recommendation Letters (from your 8th Grade Math teacher, English teacher, and Principal/Counselor)
  • Parish Verification Form (if your family is attending a Catholic parish in the Diocese of Orange)

Receipt of your $50 application fee automatically reserves your student a seat at the HSPT Placement Test on Saturday, January 25, 2014 (7:45 am to 12:30 pm).

Once your application is complete and we have received the results of the HSPT Placement Test, we will be mailing out acceptance letters in late February 2014.

The answers to these questions and more may be found at a Parent Seminar on Catholic High School Admissions. The Admissions office at SMCHS will be offering free seminars at the following school locations during the month of November.  No RSVP's are necessary, but please bring your questions.  Students and parents are invited.  Each seminar begins at 6:30 pm.

Shadow Days Set for 2013-2014
8th Grade Students Invited to Check Out SMCHS
  
 
Interested in finding out what a typical day of school is like at SMCHS? A student Shadow Day may be the perfect way to learn if becoming an Eagle is the right fit for you.

Shadow Days occur on scheduled days throughout the school year. Shadow Days typically begin at 8:15 am and end at 1:45 pm.  We will also provide lunch for your student.

To set up a Shadow Day for your student, please find a date that fits your schedule by clicking here and then call Rhonda Ury in the Admissions office at 949-766-6076.

Shadow Days fill up quickly, so please call us at least 3 days before the shadow day to reserve your spot.
  
Eagles Advanced Placement (AP) Scholars Sets New Standard
197 SM Students Pass At Least 3 AP Exams in 2012-13 
  
When it comes to passing AP Classes, few schools can top Santa Margarita.  In the 2012-2013 school year, 197 students passed at least 3 separate AP tests, with 4 students reaching the highest level being recognized as a National AP Scholar.  Students that pass our college-level AP classes earn college credit at the majority of universities and colleges in the United States.  
  
Santa Margarita once again had more students recognized as AP Scholars  than any other Trinity League high school.  For more information about these students and our AP program, please click here.

Fellowship in Faith Series Begins

Sr. Joanna Begins Series on November 6th

 

From the Sisters Devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Sr. Joanna Strouse has already made a wonderful impression on our Santa Margarita community, and on November 6th, she begins her Parent Faith Formation series entitled Fellowship in Faith.

 

All parents are welcomed to attend the evening, which will be held in the Eagle Athletics Center, 3rd floor Banquet Center from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  RSVP's are appreciated (949-244-1216 or charlene.palmer@cox.net). For more information about the Faith Formation event, please see the flyer here.

 

   

HSPT Placement Test Prep Classes Now Available

Students That Wish to Prepare for the Catholic High School Placement Test Can Find Prep Classes at SMCHS

 

HSPT 

Santa Margarita Catholic High School will once again be offering prep classes for the HSPT Placement Test.

 

The HSPT Placement Test will be given on Saturday, January 25, 2014.  All Catholic high schools in Orange County will be giving this exam on this date.  Schools like Santa Margarita use the results of this test to help place students in their appropriate freshman classes. 

 

If your student wishes to learn the latest test-taking techniques, see sample questions, and get a better understanding about the structure of the exam, one of these classes is right for you.

 

There are 3 sessions offered and students only need to sign up for one session.  The 3 different sessions are:

 

A:  January 4, 2014--9 am to 12 pm

B:  January 11, 2014--9 am to 12 pm

C:  January 12, 2014--12 pm to 3 pm

 

Cost:  $75 if registered before 12-13-13, or $85 after 12-13-13

Eagles Strength and Conditioning Camps 

3 Sessions Available for Middle School Students From All Sports 

 

No matter which sport you have a passion for, strength and conditioning play a vital role in how well you play and how safe and healthy you are.  Santa Margarita is offering a Strength and Conditioning camp for any middle school student wishing to learn the proper techniques and fundamentals of strength training.

 

3 Sessions are being offered:

 

1:  November 11 to December 19, 2013

2:  January 6 to February 13, 2014

3:  February 24 to April 3, 2014

 

Cost is $250 per session and training sessions take place in the Eagle Weight Room on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm
