I just recently attended the AUVSI (Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International) convention here in Atlanta.  These folks are the robotic developers, in the air, on the land, in the ocean.  The developments in this area, especially in drones, is becoming a phenomenal evolution.

Another area that was on display was Additive Manufacturing, or 3-D printing.

These technologies have a tremendous potential for application in traditional manufacturing industries.

This is where you come in.  If you are in an area with traditional heavy industry, it will behoove you to spend some time understanding these new technologies and how they can service your existing industrial base.

It is quite obvious that both drones and 3-D printing will invade existing manufacturing operations.  Drone operators and service providers located near your existing base will provide an important competitive advantage for your base.  So will 3-D printers, printing production parts and maintenance parts.

Perhaps it is time to convene your existing manufacturing base and ask them how you can help attract these new enterprises to locate in your area.
