Politics getting in the way
We have been watching a community where rival factions have been doing the best job they can to keep jobs away. Oh, they don't mean to do so, but the various political entities that lay claim to a certain region are spending all their time squabbling while prospective employers just drive on by.
Part of the problem, as we see it, is that many of the people elected to leadership positions in this case are sorely lacking in one of two sets of attributes necessary to bring in jobs.
The first is that they are myopic--they tend to focus only on their own little world (and we have seen this many times over the years) and do not take the time or are perhaps not even aware of what other communities are doing to entice employers to come to them.
The second is that their own experiences are heavily political in nature, their governing boards do not contain members with large industry or large business experience. Made up of retailers and local service providers, they are completely clueless as to how big business thinks and set criteria for expansion locations.
If you feel you are living the experience just described above, for heaven's sake, do something about it! Take a leadership role and take charge of the situation. Your community is counting on you. And if we can help, just let us know (see below).
