23 Apr 14: Technology 5: No answers, just frustration
|
Just whining this week, folks. Ever since I (Jim) was introduced to the headbox, I have seen it as nothing but a huge waste of water and energy. If you have spent any time looking at the wet end of a paper machine, you have seen all sorts of schemes, patented schemes, to make headboxes "better." It is like the men's razor--just wait a while and a new one will appear that is supposed to solve all the problems of the old one.
Hydraulic, rectifier roll, atmospheric, you name it, it seems to have been tried. Yet all are lacking something.
This is a chance for you to comment...
What should we do about the headbox?
