Another way to approach the Light Green Machine philosophy through methods is to examine contribution to EBITDA. If a process can be eliminated or reduced in size, you have a viable candidate for LGMI practices.
I have told the story many times of the mill that had three small machines and ended up with two making the same production as the three before. All without capital.
It was all methods. How the machines were scheduled, what orders were accepted, training the people--this all made a difference, a huge difference.
Today, one example of methods is the growing evidence from experience across many recycled mills that perhaps refiners are a luxury item. These are a beautiful example of using modern methods to eliminate a large installed and operating cost.
