As the Light Green Machine Institute looks forward to the new year, we pause to take our bearings and consider areas of exploration as we work towards our goal of reducing the installed weight of pulp and paper facilities in the future.  We believe these are the areas of concentration for our work.  We would like your opinion, as well.

1. Materials.  Balancing higher costs with lighter weight and better performance.  We think this subject deserves much of our future focus.

2. Computerization. Using automation and measuring to eliminate old fashioned ways of doing things that are, by today's standards, costly and inefficient.

3. Methods.  How we do things affects what we need to do them with.

4. Chemicals.  Chemical additives can reduce equipment needs.  How should these be evaluated?  What should be selection criteria?

5. Layout.  Facility layout can play an extremely large role in the cost and operation of a facility.  We have done some work in this area, but more and deeper study is needed.

Have we missed any broad areas?  Let us know by sending an email to [email protected] with "LGMI Frontiers" in the subject line.
