25 Dec 13: Twitter
LGMI R

Yes, Twitter.

We have finally figured out a serious use for this Internet application.

First, you need to know you can set up a Twitter account that is private.  In other words, you can determine who the followers are and not let anyone else see the contents.

So, what do you do with this?

If you have anyone spending time calling in Maintenance or extra production workers, you can reduce that effort by setting up a special Twitter account to do that. Just have all the employees in the group you would call to sign up for the special Twitter account you set up.

Another great thing you can do with Twitter is set up alarms.  Anything you can measure, you can create an alarm in your software to notify designated personnel.

An easy example is time.  Say the machine is down 10 minutes--the Twitter account is set up to call the superintendent.  Maybe it is down 20 minutes, another specific Twitter account calls the production manager.

If you can measure it, you can set up a Twitter alarm.

No longer are there excuses for personnel not making calls according to protocol.
