Finding the Right Candidate

Hiring managers are feeling the pressures of finding
qualified candidates, especially since bad hiring decisions cost organizations significant time and money. So how
can businesses steer clear of making poor hiring choices? According to Inc. Magazine, organizations must have a thorough understanding of the role itself before jumping in to interview candidates. Inc. outlines how businesses can effectively scope an open position and ultimately put themselves in a place to find the right hire, including defining the position's fundamental mission and assembling the right hiring team to conduct interviews and collectively nail down the nitty-gritty details of the role. Inc. notes that before hiring managers can find the right people, they need to know exactly what they're looking for.

Winning Over Millennial Candidates
Fortune recently outlined four key ways employers can
improve their hiring process and attract more Millennial candidates. The article highlights a recent CEB survey reporting that the competition for Millennial candidates is fiercer than ever. According to the survey, one of the biggest challenges employers face is the unevenness of the Millennial candidate pool itself - a candidate either has multiple job offers or none at all. Survey results also indicate that Millennials are participating in just as many job interviews as older job seekers, but are landing 12.5% more job offers. So how can hiring managers impress these twenty-somethings during the interview process? Fortune suggests rethinking the traditional job interview and developing mobile apps for career information.

Get Your Employees in the Productive Mindset

Forbes recently provided companies with seven
management practices designed to increase employee engagement and boost overall productivity. So how can managers get employees to work at full productive capacity? Forbes offers seven practical suggestions including implementing a carefully structured economic incentive program, regularly providing meaningful and constructive feedback, and adequately training employees at all levels. Forbes says a consistent and balanced management approach will not just strengthen employee goodwill, loyalty, commitment, and engagement - it will also boost their productivity.

Asking Candidates When They Have Gone Above and Beyond
E-mail Business Etiquette

The use of email as a vehicle for communicating in the workplace is a critical tool in any business. That being said when it comes to HR matters one needs to be careful with when email is used in lieu of good old fashion live dialogue. The sharing of static factual information that predictably would not result in much in the way of questions, give and take, challenges or alike (e.g. holiday schedule deployment, where forms can be found for a new service) is fine. Communicating things like new benefits, a change in organizational structure or even performance concerns beg for live conversation. Further, using email to avoid the confrontation usually serves to enhance the confrontation. Our advice - Use email wisely and with the perspective of the recipient always in mind.
