SFX: Weekly Memo February 22, 2016

Dear Parents,

Today I observed some of our students practicing their new spelling words and a sentence using the words in cursive. The teacher asked for a sentence using the word "create" and a student responded "Only God can create". I love moments like this in our Catholic school where academic learning includes meaningful thoughts about our Faith.

FOOD ORDER FORMS & CALENDAR for MARCH were sent home last week. Forms are also available on the school website.

2016-17 ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CHURCH FINANCIAL AID FORMS are available in the school office. *Forms are due on or before May 1, 2016, families will be notified by May 20, 2016.

TUTORING NOW AVAILABLE

We are excited to announce a new tutoring program made possible by a grant from the Daniel Foundation. The program will provide FREE tutoring to all our students on a weekly basis. The tutors will be our teachers. Please read the following carefully.

K-2 begins the week of Feb. 29

3-8 begins this week

K-2: Tutoring in this group is designed to provide consistent help to students that are struggling in Reading, Math, or Writing. IN K-2 YOU MUST ENROLL TO ATTEND

Times: Tuesday-Thursday 3:15-4:15 and Wednesday 7:30-8:00

Location: K rooms

Procedure for participation: Enrollment period will be Feb. 18^th - Feb. 25^th. Students will be assigned to a small groups, and tutoring will begin the week of February 29^th. Once enrollment is over, students will not be added until the next open enrollment (April 15).

3-5: Tutoring in this group is designed to provide general and specific support. NO ENROLLMENT REQUIRED. STUDENT DROPINS ARE WELCOMED AND ENCOURAGED AS NEEDED.

Times: Tuesday-Thursday 3:15-4:15 and Mondays 7:00-7:30

Location: 4^th grade room

Procedure for participation: Parents and ASC are responsible for drop off/pick up. No enrollment needed.

6-8: Tutoring in this group is designed to provide general and specific support. NO ENROLLMENT REQUIRED. STUDENT DROPINS ARE WELCOMED AND ENCOURAGED AS NEEDED.

Time: Wednesdays 3:15-6:00, and Thursday 7:15-8:00 (Math)

Location: 5^th grade room and 7th grade room (AM)

Procedure for participation: Parents and ASC are responsible for drop off/pick up. No enrollment needed.

YEARBOOK ADS

Please consider purchasing or selling an ad for our yearbook! The proceeds from ad sales this year will help support our 8th grade banquet and class trip. Please check with your doctors, dentists, and other local business owners they are usually very receptive to purchasing yearbook ads. Other ad ideas might include parents/grandparents sending a student photo and a special message of support or recognizing a student, sports team, or club for a special achievement!

Half page - $50

Quarter page - $25

The yearbook staff wants you to share your school photos! You may submit candid photos, school activities (scouts/clubs), sports shots, etc. for consideration.

WE HAVE RAISED $5,300 TOWARDS OUR GOAL OF $6,000. ALL STUDENTS WHO RAISED AT LEAST $50 CAN DRESS OUT OF UNIFORM ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 26TH. YOU MAY STILL DONATE TO EARN PRIZES AND THE OUT OF UNIFORM DAY. PLEASE NOTE OUT OF UNIFORM IS PER STUDENT, NOT PER FAMILY.
