Valued Merchants, Business Owners, City Residents and Neighbors:

It has become the City of Haines City's focal point to recognize those who have served and sacrificed so much for this country, both abroad and domestically.

The City anticipates constructing a public safety memorial at Railroad Park to recognize those who our Community has lost in the line of duty (Police and Fire Service Personnel). This park has become sacred grounds for our Community. It is an important gathering place where we celebrate and recognize the commitment this Community has for duty, honor and country during our Veterans and Memorial Day celebrations. Currently, it is the home of our Military Court of Honor where the City shows it's support to our Veterans and their family members.

Therefore, the City would like to provide you an opportunity to cast your vote for the renaming of what is currently known as Railroad Park. Please note this survey is only a tool intended to provide the public's opinion on potential names that the City Commission will consider at a subsequent City Commission Meeting.

Respectfully submitted,
Jonathan E. Evans, MPA, MBA, ICMA-CM
City Manager

Haines City Receives Nationally Recognized Budget Award

Haines City, FL - May 12, 2016 - Haines City received a letter from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) this week informing the City Manager that the City is the recipient of the GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award - a first in Haines City history.

According the GFOA letter received by the City, "The award represents a significant achievement by Haines City. It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting."

The award is presented to the individual or department designated as primarily responsible for achieving the award. In this case, the award was presented to Haines City Manager, Jonathan Evans.

"This award is a great honor and a testament to the hard work Haines City Staff has dedicated to bring us to a whole new level of professionalism and transparency," said Evans. "To receive this award takes meticulous care, effort and teamwork to prepare and implement an effective municipal budget."

To receive the award a city must meet nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation, which include how well a city's budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device. According to GFOA, only 1,491 organizations have received the award in the United States and Canada for budgets beginning in 2014.

"We want Haines City residents to know that our Staff works tirelessly to be excellent stewards of their tax dollars through sound financial practices and transparency," said Evans. "The GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is something the whole community should be proud to receive."

A formal public presentation of the award will be held during the next Haines City Commission meeting, Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 7 PM.
