Memorial Day Celebration

On Monday, May 25, 2015, a Memorial Day Celebration will be held at Railroad Park, 620 East Main Street in downtown Haines City. This event, which begins at 9 AM, is Haines City's way of saying "Thank You" to all those who have fought for our freedom. This celebration reminds us about the great men and woman who help protect this country.

If you are a Veteran or active Military, the City of Haines City would like to honor you with a Heroes Ceremonial Police and Fire escort to Railroad Park.  The convoy will depart from the Aquatic Center parking lot (321 South 6th Street) promptly at 8:45 AM.  Transportation will be provided back to the Aquatic Center following the event.

We will honor and recognize all branches of the military at the Military Court of Honor. Please mark your calendars and join us as we salute these heroes.

For just $35, you can honor a Veteran or someone currently in the Military by purchasing a custom-inscribed 4 X 8 inch paver for Haines City's Military Court of Honor. Newly purchased pavers are installed twice a year. Purchases made between now and October 23, 2015, will be installed by Veterans Day 2015. Purchases made after October 24th will be installed by Memorial Day 2016.

Director Adnan "Addie" Javed, P.E.

The Public Works Department's Stormwater team members have begun performing periodic lake clean-ups. This will be the second time they have removed litter from Lake Eva with the use of Kayaks. On April 20, 2015, members of the Public Works Team removed one (1) large bag of litter from Lake Eva and one (1) from Lake Elsie.

The Public Works Department is currently coordinating with the Polk County Natural Resource Division in Bartow for a cost for spraying around the edges of Lake Elsie and also for spraying 20 plus acres in Lake Eva.

A special "Thank You" goes out to Ed Trail of the Public Works Department for the use of his Kayaks for performing these lake clean-ups. You can help as well, remember to put litter in its place.
