February 16, 2015

Dear Haines City Residents, Business Owners, Visitors and Employees,

The intent of this email is to inform you about some great things that are occurring at Haines City High School. Our Lady Hornets Basketball Team are one game away from playing for a state championship. Their opponents have no idea what these Lady Hornets have in store for them. The semifinal game will be on Thursday, February 19, 2015, at 7 PM at the Lakeland Civic Center (701 W Lime St, Lakeland, FL 33815), admission is only $6.

It is incumbent that we show our Lady Hornets how proud we are of them, and more importantly, show up in droves and pack the Lakeland Civic Center with people wearing Kelly green! Opportunities like this only present themselves once in a lifetime, and I can assure you that these young ladies are prepared to make this City proud. So during this next week, let us show our support in every way possible, whether you're an alumni, resident, business owner, or a member of our clergy community. Please post signs, banners, or anything that will give these ladies the encouragement they need to bring home a coveted state championship. Last year, the City of Haines City broke a world record and etched its name into the history books; however, these young ladies are about to make history themselves, and attempt to bring home a state championship, creating memories that will never be forgotten.

As the City Manager, I am requesting that all signs under the City's control read, "Go Lady Hornets! We Support You!" Secondly, I'm modifying the City's dress code this week to casual Friday attire with the caveat that they must wear Kelly Green or a shirt supporting Haines City High School. Let us support our Lady Hornets and change the ordinary into the extraordinary so that the team can bring home a state title. On behalf of the Mayor, City Commissioners, and City Staff, GO LADY HORNETS!

Respectfully Submitted,

Jonathan E. Evans, MPA, ICMA-CM
