Happy Spring!!! This newsletter is going out to friends and family of my run for re-election to Salinas City Council. You're receiving it because you're there for support. I was taught early in life that we have to leave things in better shape than when we found them. More importantly, that much is expected of those to whom much is given. This campaign embraces that spirit.
Whether you are a voter in Salinas or a friend, watching from afar, I want to thank you for your attention and support. Political campaigns are not easy. However, they can be fun and very energizing for a community. I invite you to continue to stay involved electronically through outlets like this newsletter. You will find interesting information, ways you can help, and some fun facts and stories.
Again, thank you for your ongoing support. Please keep in touch and engage this campaign any way possible via Facebook, email, and in person with friends.
Sincerely,
Steve McShane
Salinas City Councilman
District 3

Earthday Mixer at McShane's a Growing Success!
|
The day after our last newsletter there was an Earth Day mixer at the Nursery. Even though the weather was cold and windy there was a great turn out, with handmade pizzas and booths ranging from the Salinas Jaycees to our local FFA chapter. Speaking of which, thanks to all the FFA volunteers that came out to help setup the event, and of course to Rick and Marilyn Fedelem and Jamie Bowker who manned our campaign table for the night!
Special thanks to Dexter Farm for event photography! VIEW, TAG and LIKE photos from the Facebook album here: http://on.fb.me/1mShJ6k

YWCA Mixer at McShane's Nursery
|
The YWCA Mixer was co-hosted by Steve and the Salinas Valley Business Women's Network. The YWCA was honored for their commitment to helping empower and rehabilitate women who are victims of domestic violence, as were the Salinas Valley Business Women's Network and the Salinas High FFA for there efforts in enabling women to empower themselves. It was well attended with 50+ people coming to enjoy wine, house-made pizzas, and jazz by Dan Beck, as great local guitarist/singer.

Precinct Walking on Saturday
|
Precinct walking is a lot like a casual reading. For some reason we avoid it, but once start we wonder why we don't do it more often. Last Saturday was no exception as we enjoyed a beautiful day and met our neighbors to make sure everyone knows I am running.
Thanks for everyone who came out, especially all you Salinas High Students who had prom that night!

Steve loves to cook. He is especially fond of cooking food that came right out of his garden. For as much as he likes a hearty meal, he enjoys a fantastic treat. Every month we will share one of his favorite recipes.
|
This Month's Featured Recipe:
Steve's Amazing Baked French Toast
I love French Toast. In fact, one year I went on a search for the best French Toast in the world. I found it in New Orleans. It was a "baked" French Toast. It was not until years later that I began preparing it for friends in Lake Tahoe. Over the years it has been perfected. Enjoy!
The night before, combined the following:
- 10 Eggs
- cup milk
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 3 tsp. cinnamon
Cut up one loaf of French bread into several slices approx. 1.5 inches thick. Arrange in a Pyrex dish and drizzle over the top of the bread. Cover it with foil and chill it in the fridge over night.
The next morning, you'll start by popping the French Toast in the oven. Bake it for twenty minutes with foil over the top at 350 degrees.
While its cooking away, make the topping with the following:
- 1 cup butter (Challenge is my favorite)
- Large package pecans
- 1 cup light brown sugar
Heat the above ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat until smooth. Remove the "marinated" French Toast from oven and drizzle the goodies over the top.
Bake at 350 degrees for another fifteen minutes uncovered.
Enjoy!

With spring in full swing I'm in the middle of one of the busiest times of year at the nursery, and as you can see the campaign is only getting stronger. I appreciate you reading this newsletter and encourage you to forward it to others and share with friends. In the electronic age, it's easier than ever to build a groundswell of supporters. - Steve |
