We are delighted to present two works by Celia Sandys, the internationally acclaimed author, journalist, lecturer and granddaughter of Winston Churchill.
Her UK best-selling titles are now available for the first time in American print editions from Texas A&M University Press.
"Celia became interested in writing about her grandfather, whom she called 'grandpapa,' a few years ago when she found a treasure trove of his letters from ages 6 to 20, which had gone undiscovered by historians. . . . The result was 'From Winston with Live and Kisses: The Young Churchill,' which revealed his lonely, introspective, sometimes miserable childhood. . . . On a trip to South Africa, she encountered many people and places that recalled Churchill's career as a war correspondent in the Boer War. . . . Young Winston was captured by the Boers but escaped with a price on his head, hence the title of the lively book, 'Churchill Wanted Dead or Alive.' . . . glowing reviews of that stirring account with new detail-notable for its depiction of young Churchill, warts and all, as a very human character . . . ." --New York Times
Special Lecture Presentation
We are honored to welcome Ms. Sandys, in conjunction with the Office of Academic Affairs, to Texas A&M University as a special speaker in the Community of Scholars Lecture series.

David K. Langford's and Lori Woodward Cantu's artful masterpiece is at once a moving photo-documentation of life and love on rugged land and a quietly powerful testament to the importance of practiced conservation.
"In Texas, 94 percent of the land is privately owned, so the future of the Lone Star State depends on the care of individual land owners. Hillingdon Ranch: Four Seasons, Six Generations tells the story of how one family's passionate stewardship translates into environmental benefits for our entire state. The Giles family's commitment to conservation is a model for all Texans as we work together to protect our state's clean air, clean water, wildlife habitats and magnificent natural landscapes."--Mrs. Laura Bush, Former First Lady of Texas and the United States of America

*David Langford is a Texas Book Festival featured author! See his program Saturday morning and 11 am and then meet him as he signs books in our tent on Saturday and Sunday.

SILVER SCREEN STAFF PICK OF THE MONTH by Mary Ann Jacobs, Design ManagerOne of my favorite books is Continental Divide by Krista Schlyer. It made me realize how we often don't think about what our individual and then collective actions do to wildlife and other people outside of our personal spheres. I doubt if very many people realize how big an effect the border wall has had on so many species of wildlife. It has also had a huge effect on the communities along the wall.
Most of the time, all we hear about in the media concerning the border wall with Mexico is immigration and its resulting political tensions, but the repercussions are much larger than just those issues. The wall affects every American, and it does so in surprising ways of which we aren't yet fully aware. This book is an eye-opener, so it's no surprise it was selected by the American Library Association as one of thirteen "Best of the Best Books from University Presses" for 2013. From stunning photographs to the scope of the visual message, this is one book you don't want to miss!
