Celebrate our nation this July by exploring one of America's greatest legacies: our public lands and national parks. Full of natural beauty, fascinating wildlife, and rich history, these lands are also at the mercy of political and environmental factors that could significantly impact their futures--and ours.
We hear about economic and social effects of the border wall between the US and Mexico, but what about environmental impacts? Find out what author and photographer Krista Schlyer uncovered in her award-winning book.

Public lands inspired George Bristol's lifelong love affair of America's outdoors and led to powerful conservation efforts in the political arena to save the public park system in the state of Texas.
From sea to shining sea, national parks are home to some of nature's greatest inhabitants. National Park Service veterans Gary W. Vequist and Daniel S. Licht teach us how to spot these creatures.
In one of the darkest moments in America's past, people began digging for stability and wound up in our nation's present. Cynthia Brandimarte's park profiles include CCC history, activity, and still-standing structures.

Dan K. Utley and Cynthia Beeman return with more narratives on Texas's colorful history and heritage in History Along the Way: Stories beyond the Texas Roadside Markers. Every part of Texas gets a visit in this anthology.
Among my favorite narratives is the tale of Port Arthur native Janis Joplin's "lonely road home." It explores Joplin's love-hate relationship with her hometown and how the town came to grips with Joplin's fame and memorialized her legacy. In January 2008, a diverse crowd including children, old-timers, local politicians, curious neighbors, and visitors came together and celebrated the dedication of an Official Texas Historical Marker on what would have been the singer's 65th birthday.
Other fascinating narratives include an army engineer who mapped the Republic of Texas frontier, a hunter of mammoth bones, a ragtime composer, and civil rights leaders.

Let's Keep America Beautiful
From national conservation to local history preservation, we can make a difference. Rudolph A. Rosen teaches us how to be a fundraising whiz for a cause, even in this economic climate!
"From the beautiful birds on its cover to its index, Rudolph Rosen mines his decades of successful fundraising to share with the reader a comprehensive and pragmatic resource for successful event fundraising. Woe to those who ignore Rosen's hard-earned wisdom."
